How far ahead can I do my knot? Braided line

Never used braided line before, and also never did a Palomar knot before, So I was hoping to get my knots done a day or two in advance, so that I don't have to worry about fumbling around doing a knot at 4am on Saturday morning.

Would it okay to do my knots and get everything setup a day or two in advance? I know the line has to be wet for braided line for the knot, but I was thinking about not cutting the slack end and then tighing again on the morning of before cutting it.

Learn the uni knot.

It’s easy as hell to do, practice with some string or something.

Some light googling suggested the Palomar (actually the improved Palomar) to be best for braided line.

Edit. Do you think the Uni is equal/better?

Not a fan of the uni. Simple clinch knot or trilene works best for me when attaching to a swivel

I've tied the uni for a long time on braid and it's never failed.

I've landed some hard fighting fish on light line with uni knots. They might not be the best knot, but they are a good knot. Quick and easy is a plus too.

A correctly tied knot won't untie itself. Rig up whenever you want.

By “wet”, that just means to dampen it as you’re pulling is tight. Doesn’t have to be in the water. I just put the unfinished knot in my mouth and get some saliva on it.

You can tie your knots literally years in advance.

I’ve never heard of knots coming undone before. I leave all my knots and fish daily. Learn a fluorocarbon to braided knot, so much cleaner and fish can’t see it.

^ this if you’re using lures. No need for extra metal in there.
