I had it exchanged at Bass Pro Shops, where I originally got it through an online order. Just took the order printout to my local store and exchanged it for the same model rod they had in stock.

Man, here's what you released: Red Hind Grouper is a member of the grouper family.

Grouper is out of season here. I think it applies to all kinds of grouper, so this one is included.

And yes, it's safer to release something you don't know. Because there is an abundance of fish here. So no point in risking a fine and the license. Not like there won't be more fish caught after this one.

Just on our way back we saw a fishing boat being searched in our inlet. We've had our boat boarded and searched a few years ago. They even lifted up all cushions to make sure there isn't anything stashed away. So really not worth it keeping fish that might not be legal to keep.

Not sure what this little thing is. We released it, but it sure looks pretty.

We fried several of the Grunts, and they are surprisingly not bad tasting. The rest of the Grunts will be used for bait for the next time. I wish we got more Snappers instead of Grunts, but oh well, still not a bad day out.

I go a new fishing rod and I just noticed it's slightly bent to the side.

Should I return it or is it normal? It's a jigging spinning rod for 80-130lb line, if that makes any difference.

If Walmart has them they will exchange it, otherwise try a sporting goods store.

I think I did buy it at Walmart. Just not sure which one of the three we have in the area, and I don't have a receipt. Or maybe at Bass Pro Shops.

I bought multiple Ugly Stik rods in a short span and at different stores. So no way to figure out where I bought that particular rod.

Do I need a receipt? Or will Walmart replace it just because they are Ugly Stik dealer or something?

As I posted last week, my wife broke a rod. And I was going to throw it away. But a buddy of mine suggested that regardless of the cause Ugly Stik would replace the rod if it snapped like that.

Is this true? Worth it to try to contact them about it?

Here you go: https://www.fishingstage.com/t-63319-1.html

Last week, inshore straight out of the inlet. We used cut-up blue runner as bait. Some shrimp, to catch some grout also for bait.

Got it last week. Never seen one this big around here. My wife's rod broke. Not due to fighting or the drag. Likely a rod microfracture that finally gave in. The rod was in the holder, and then just snapped as the snapper grabbed the bait. Still, she managed to pull out the fish even with the rod broken.

some game fish. some bait fish for the future. overall not a bad day out.

Hey guys names pancho, where are you guys catching redfish and snappers out of Stuart inlet. We are using frozen shrimp and frozen squid.

Check any of the artificial reefs.

We fish Texas reef. It's about 3 miles straight out of the St Lucie inlet. Plenty of snapper there.

Try the Sputnik! The extended arms break away and don't easily get hung up on rocks or other debris in the water. The design grabs hold of the bottom (sand) but allows for easy retrieval when anchored.
I am a Regular surf fisherman in NW Florida not a salesmen, I designed one of these types of grappling lead weights after assisting a shark crew and witnessed the anchor weights they used. I copied from memory on a smaller scale using a 2oz lead teardrop and hard wire twisted around into 4 points. I almost like to not dislodge that sucker once anchored in the sand bar!
Check online for Non rolling weights/fishing tackle.

Yeah, I'll give sputnik a try after I test no roll sinkers. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I will be giving it a try next time I'm out on the water.

Used pyramid sinkers. They should hold. Run you line through the top to use as sliding sinkers.

I tried that. Had really bad results. It's almost like it turns back side and acts as a parachute in current. Drag was worse than with a regular egg sinker. But using pyramid sinkers was my first idea to try after I realized that egg sinkers aren't working in those conditions for me.

Some put nails in bank sinkers.

Hmm. That would make it a sputnik sinker in a sense?
