Looks like a warmouth as much as anything...
If you are worried about some of the combos holding up, see Catfish and Carp's youtube video about:
Fishing rod challenge! Can I break an Ugly Stik GX2?!
You will be impressed how well it did.
As a kid I caught everything on a little Zebco spincast 202. I even took it to the coast and caught a number of fish there (nothing bigger than 5 or 6 lbs.). Being a kid I didn't clean it properly when I returned home so it rusted. But, I simply upgraded to a 404 and fished that until I left for college and quit fishing for 45 years, until I took it up again last year. The new 202s and etc. are not as well made as those of my generation, and I fish mainly baitcasters anyway, some "budget" but several Shimanos, Daiwas, 13 Fishing and Abu Garcias that are "mid-range" $200 reels. St. Croix and Favorite are my go to rods. Spinning gear that is the equivalent. However, I find myself grabbing some of the "budget" gear as often as the nicer gear when I go fishing. One set-up is a 13 fishing spinning combo and the other is a White Bird Favorite rod with a Royal Legend Elite reel in the 6. whatever gear ratio range. I don't know why, I just like them. :-) I should be grabbing my Tatula or Curado with an equivilent spinning set-up, but I guess there is no accounting for taste. :-) That's why some women marry us guys ;-)
Yes, but just think of the fish story you could tell!! ;-)
I cheat on the roux. I make it fast on the stovetop (bacon grease, so much better than anything else) but only dark caramel colored, then add Kitchen Bouquet . It turns it darker and adds some nice spice. All my gumbos have sausage and okra and Lea&Perrins, Not andouille sausage, but smoked. Andouille tastes fatty to me. Never liked it or file.
Gumbo is funny. You can make it exactly the same forever and the every now and then get an extraordinary pot!
I use their stuff all the time. I have never had a problem. Some of their reels really let you dial them in, like the Assassin. Others are more idiot proof. Their Perigee Rods are very good for a good price, especially their two piece. Their Calamus rod as well. I agree with the guy that praised the Sharkey 3. It is a tank. I have some expensive set-ups, and they are nice, but most of the time I grab my blue Royal Legend Elite and a little 13 Fishing Fate Neon light rig I have and head out the door. As a matter of fact, about to do that very thing...lol!!
Black or black and blue or maybe black and red would be better imho.
Sounds like that pond definitely needs to be fished down or you will have a bunch of stunted bass and not much else.
I wear’em bank fishing. I have an idea for a shoe design for walking in mud sorta like a cross between jungle boots and crocs.
Crocs certainly aren’t universal shoes. They have their place though.
Doesn’t look like a largemouth to me.
I use Flurocarbon for a leader, but I am about to stop doing even that. I find it to be brittle and a little harder to tie. Seems to snap off far easier than mono. Before we had Flurocarbon, fish bit just fine on mono. Shoot, for our trout line we used string, and the fish still bit! But that was many moons ago. Fish may have become more sophisticated 😉. It might add a little bit to a natural presentation, but imho, not worth the cost or trouble.
LOL, no, I love it!! Hope you catch a ton with it!
I usually try 20 casts or so and, if no bites, I try something else. I normally only have a few hours to fish so take about four different set-ups which I use until I break them all off or just decide I suck at fishing 🙂
Daiwa makes a nice little 2 piece spinning rod. Favorite makes a 2 piece White Bird for a great price. I have had excellent luck with KastKing myself, and that is the rod I took on vacation. St. Croix of course but they are twice as expensive, but I love St. Croix.
