The executive order took effect at 8 p.m. Monday.

"This virus is spreading rapidly and exponentially," Hogan said. "We are no longer asking or suggesting that Marylanders stay home, we are directing them to do so."

Anyone who violates the order will be guilty of a misdemeanor that carries a possible sentence of up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

Just to clear up a misunderstanding, no one is guilty of anything until they are convicted in a court of law. What you meant to write was, "Anyone who violates the order CAN BE CHARGED with a misdemeanor...." etc.

I'm surprised that the Government hasn't shut down the coal mine. With all that pollution. It's affecting the natural environment of the area and God knows wherelse.

Funny. What the government is doing is relaxing the regulations to allow MORE dumping of mining waste in rivers and streams. It's part of their effort to revive the coal business.

SOOOOOO chumming attracts fish by adding scent to the water.
Baits attract fish by adding scent to the water.
Is it the amount and where is the line? And if your bait falls off the hook are you then chumming?

When I was in the Navy we used to call shipmates who nitpicked at the fine points of Navy Regulations "sea lawyers". The last thing you wanted if you ever got a court martial was a sea lawyer to defend you; the Navy had plenty of experience dealing with them and they would get you into more hot water than they could ever get you out of if you took their advice. Don't be a "sea lawyer".

Need all info. available. Most GOOD ponds in tallahassee r fenc ed. When i get 2 a lake or posted pond, (i tresspass when foggy 7-815 am) i got 2 get Bass quick. All Bassers; please respond!!!

Hate to break it to you, but you and others like you are the reasons ponds get fenced in. The property owners at one time would have welcomed fishermen who had the courtesy to ask for permission to fish. But trespassers don't ask, so the owners Posted the property. When the trespassers ignored those signs, the owners fenced off the property. You probably aren't a property owner, so you wouldn't understand. I'll put it bluntly: you don't have the right to be on anyone's property if you don't have permission; you're no better than a poacher. So stop it.

Hit a submerged tree branch with my trolling motor and cracked the welds on the bow plate were the motor mounts.
Can these welds be rewelded? I've called around but I guess everyone is closed due to the virus.
Hope everyone is doing ok.

Sure, they can be rewelded. Is that aluminum? If so, then when you take it for repairs, bring money. If you know what I mean.

So I live in Dallas Texas, were we have a shelter in place order. I haven't gone fishing since. The shelter in place ordnance states that there will be no groups of 10 or more and to leave our house for only essential stuff like groceries and Medical reasons. However, you can go outside to walk your dog and walk around. So my question is, is fishing really allowed?

I Googled "dallas, tx, shelter in place order" and got this:

I recommend you use a search engine like Google to get your info.

I'm not sure I understand this from the Maryland DNR.

https://news.maryland.gov/dnr/2020/03/25/maryland-fishing-report-march-25/

They are saying we should go fishing if we avoid crowds. I understand that we are supposed to be in a stay in place order. They have closed the areas around Baltimore for fresh water fishing.

No you can't, yes you can. Doesn't make good sense to me.

Your understanding is incorrect; Maryland is NOT under a "stay in place" order at this time. You can get information t the official Maryland site here:

https://coronavirus.maryland.gov

Please keep yourself and others informed through the official Maryland site and not through 'I heard' or "I understand'. That's why it "doesn't make good sense" to you.

Some incorrect technical info ot times to fish certain species, etc. could cause problems to one who
s not too keen on that sort of thing.I learned old school...any more info i had asked friends or others who fished that species beforeBeing a kid of all of nine years old,,,there wasnt an internet back then.....you know?

Think of all the information that we learned as kids from all the various sources and how it would have been if we could have just gone to one place where someone had gathered it all together so we could not only read it but also hear it and see it. Wouldn't that have been great? Well, that's the internet, a department store of knowledge on every subject, and easy to shop for just what you're looking for. I hear a lot of people putting down computers, cell phones and the web. Get a horse!

Doc. Were you a corpsman? Good to hear from you.

No. Honorary Doctorates in Metaphysics and in Divinity. I was a Navy Nuclear-trained Electrician's Mate, Qualified in Submarines and served in Vietnam. I was a certified Red Cross First Aid instructor at one time, though. Now just certified to perform First Aid and CPR.
But none of that matters; I'm retired and I like to fish.
Good to hear from you also, Spiritof27!

I'd like to think that I bought almost a dozen lures I don't really need and almost 3,000 yards of various line weights because the sale was more than good and it's line changing season, but the v***s was in the back of my head, and I definitely irrationally bought more than I should have, while almost completely ignoring hooks, sinkers, and swivels because I'm a dunce.

What's your fishing "toilet paper?" What are you making sure you have enough of if it gets bad and tackle becomes hard to get?

I don't panic buy. I have a background in the US Navy Submarine force and we learned to do with almost nothing for long periods of time. I don't have much patience for people who suffer cabin fever; they have no idea what it's like to be truly isolated for so long that you don't even realized that the seasons have changed. As for panic buying and hoarding, that's pure selfishness. Get over it. Learn to be a human being, not an animal, and share with others. It's not socialism, in case you thought it might be; it's merely being a good person. Be a good person.

My dad taught me how to fish, but he was only really interested in pan fish, and now all I can catch is pan fish. I like a good bluegill, they're fun to catch and super tasty, but I see all your pictures and sometimes it'd be nice to catch something else. Trout's pretty tasty. Bass looks like it's crazy fun to pull in.

How did you learn what you know? Is there something you want to learn?

The internet is the greatest resource for learning about anything. Use it to learn about the fish you're trying to catch: what their habitat is, their range, what they feed on, when they're active, how they're affected by weather, tides, the moon and the sun, what kinds of bait to use, lures, etc. There's a lot to learn for every species of fish and it's all on the internet. Learn about your prey and use what you learned to catch them. Pretty simple, huh?

I've had fish finders for years and with only occasional use, I never know how to operate. I have to re-learn every trip. Can anyone recommend the most "user friendly" fish finder? I'm looking to spend around $1,000 for Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird. ?? Thanks for any advice.

Generally speaking, the more expensive the unit, the more features it has. More features means more instructions and more instructions just doesn't equate with "user friendly". So, you have two choices. 1. Buy an inexpensive, stripped down beginner unit or, 2. Spend a day in your den with your expensive, feature-laden depth finder, the instruction manual and youtube.com on your computer. It'll be less painful if you have an adult libation or three to get you through it but you'll also forget most of it the next day when you go out on the water and try out everything you learned. So maybe skip the adult liquid until you've mastered your toy.
The alternative to all of that, of course, is to charter a boat and captain who knows how to use the boat's fish finder. Sure, it'll cost an arm and a leg every time you want to go fishing but it sure is "user friendly" and you'll be stimulating the local economy. Plus, they'll even clean your fish for you!
