Cheating?

Tell me if this is cheating or not but I learned something while fishing my catfish pond. My grandfather has has a habit of going out to feed them catfish food and so today I went and while I was fishing, I was using catfish blood rolled in crushed catfish food. I dropped the hook about five feet out and then threw a handful of catfish food. They came to eat the food and I literally picked the hook back up and dropped it into their mouths. I caught three this way. Is that cheating? I feel like it is but it worked really well.

Edit: We kept the fish we caught and we filleted them. If I was just fishing for fun I most certainly would not have done that. This virus has made it harder for us to get food in town so fishing is the next best thing.

Would shooting a buck tied to a tree be cheating? Same principle, yes it is. Unless you were just getting a mess for dinner

What about throwing out corn for deer and shooting him when he comes to eat it? Which I also think is cheating but is somehow acceptable by the hunting community.

Like going to the coop and getting Sunday dinner you raised. They are not "wild".

It's whatever you think it is, if you can live with that, it's fine with me.

Your pond your fish
Dinner is a good reason for speeding up the catching process.

In some states that’s called chumming and illegal. As for the times right now I’d say eat however you can. We have elk, deer, wild turkeys and lots of quail and grouse in our yard. It’s not hunting season. Am I gonna go hungry? Probably not. 😉

I agree with most.. food is food. The process of getting said food is a nonissue. Do what u gotta do, that's what I say.

Catfish hunter is correct that it is called chumming. As far as it being illegal that is the first I have heard of that. But like you said you are providing food for your table not doing the catch and release.

As a matter of fact I put out a thread recently about chumming for trout. No one said anything about illegal. However as long as I am catching without chumming that works for me.

I fish quite a bit, or used to I should say, in Oregon and Washington. You don’t wanna get caught chumming in Oregon. For anything. They’ll throw the book at ya. I’m not sure about private ponds but any public water that’s a definite no-no.
