[quoteNice boat Jeremy. Couldn’t agree more about the grandkids. I’ve got a 21/2 year old grandson who is the love of my life and just was blessed with my first granddaughter two weeks ago..

I organize my leaders buy wrapping the leader on wine corks. First I cut three or four grooves lengthwise down the cork. Then I push a small nail with a head on it into the end of the cork leaving the head out about an eighth of an inch. The loop of your leader attaches to the nail and the rest of the leader is wrapped lengthwise into the groves you have cut. Stick the hook into the cork wherever it is convenient. I label the cork with the leader length on the end opposite the nail.
They conveniently fit in plastic storage trays.. It’s also fun procuring your cork supplies. This method has served me well for many years. I primarily fish for trout and the different length leaders come in handy when figuring out what works that day.

Hi everyone. I primarily fish for trout and occasionally strippers in fresh water. Love to fish the eastern Sierra lakes but haven’t done it for the last couple of years. Hope to get up to Collins Lake in about a month. Like salmon and rock cod fishing out of Monterey and Half Moon Bay. Sadly due to the pandemic and projects around the house haven’t been out for about a year and a half. Tight lines everyone.

I was on my honeymoon 38 years ago in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. My wife and I chartered a boat to do some sail fishing. No action all morning so I ate lunch and had a couple of beers. I soon fell asleep only to be shaken awake by the deck hand saying “senior you’ve caught a fish”. He hands me the pole and I can see the fish jumping about 150 yards away from the boat. Took me about 20 minutes to reel him in. I was standing at the stern and he jumped out of the water right in front of me. We were eyeball to eyeball when he spit the hook. He was about 6-7 feet long and probably weighed over 100 pounds.

Hi Steve,
If you are fishing from a boat live minnows work great. Anchovies and cut squid do well bank fishing. If you have a boat look for diving birds. They are feeding on schools of shad. Rapalas cast into the balls of shad will work well also.
PS you will be targeting striped bass.

My advice would be to keep an eye out for sleeper waves. My wife was kayaking just off the aquarium and got dunked by a big wave she didn’t see coming.

I was 11 or 12 years old when my dad took me on a canoe trip down the Wisconsin river. I was fishing with my trusty Zebco rod and reel when I hooked into something huge. It pulled our canoe up and down that river for about 15 minutes before it broke the line. I never saw it but I figured it was either a big catfish or a sturgeon. My dad said I shouldn’t have “horsed” the fish. It was a lesson I have not forgotten to this day
Almost 60 years later.

Has anyone had any luck using freshwater rubber worms on a bass-type set up like a Texas rig in saltwater? If so, what can you catch? I live in New England

Plastic worms is the go to method for rock cod fishing in Brookings Oregon. Only fished there once but limited out. I tried it here in the Monterey Bay area and they caught just as many fish as your standard shrimp fly rig.

Sounds good Steve. Looking forward to it. Bank fishing is fine if the boat is too much of a haste. My cell # is 408-833-4216.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Steve, I haven’t fished San Luis for a couple of years but would like to go again.
I live in San Martin which is about an hour away from the reservoir. Sometime after the first of the year would be best for me. I care for my grandson Monday, Wednesday and Friday so the other days work for me.

Nice haul Jeremy. Those black cod are great eating as well. What are the rules in Oregon on the Canary? Here in Ca I think you are allowed one. Used to be none which was stupid as most fish die when you pull them up from deeper water.
