Does anyone know why the website (maybe an actual person) keeps changing a posting clearly located in Northern California to "Main". The images that I put up was changed to "Main". Putah creek is closer to San Francisco (which is, for better or worse, in California last time I checked) than most of the other postings I see in the local area list of topics. The times it has happened I've contacted "Admin" but generally no response. It dissuades me from posting anything on the site. Curious...

What an astonishing list!! Outstanding.

Is there some resource to figure out what fish are generally found at each location and what times of year are best?

I remembered I had these shots of the creek if anyone is interested…

The brown water stream is just after the big rain recently, nearby the house. Just raging down the creek bed. Fishing banned there…!

If you want to fish for Bass, they can be found pretty much all over the Delta. Can’t say I’m a lure expert, but most places known for boat ramps and bank fishing seem to have bait shops nearby.

Get up early and be first in line for lake del Valle. It’s a reservoir actually. It is stocked regularly with trout. Go early on a weekday. Be careful of the commute traffic as you are driving into it from San Mateo. I’ve also fly fished very first thing. There are hatches.

There is a creek called Putah creek out of L. Berryessa that is fairly well known amongst fly-fish folk. Dam controlled flow, fly fishing only, maintained by volunteers, flies and nymphs only, barbless hooks. Pretty technical creek, tough casting because of vegetation, particularly brambles…! Mostly nymphs, some dry flies in spring and fall. Closest pure trout fishing creek to San Francisco. Heavily fished in summer. Wiley fish! It will test you.

Spring lake Sonoma county - LM Bass, some trout. I’ve tried it several times with little luck - others have had excellent luck.

Loch Lomond in the Santa Cruz mountains. Beautiful location, ok fishing. Can fly fish there early. Electric boats only for rent, no gas engines allowed. Is one of the water supplies for Santa Cruz.

There is a local guy on YouTube. - I think Fong is his last name. Does a good job with updates.
Best I can offer.

There are a couple very knowledgeable fishermen here from the north bay. They may have suggestions

Outstanding report and information from Geomike! That’s the way to do it. Based on that and being a 75% fly fisherman, I’m going to make the drive…. Not sure where to stay but there has to be something nearby. The dry-fly opportunity sounds great!

Lucky that is not all that is sliding off. BTW, I have been researching for dry suit waders (full bib) and other than they are expensive, the quality seems to vary a lot. Simms seems to have a lock on the overall market and they offer varying levels (and quality of material) of outfits. As a result, I'm looking into "previously used" on eBay and other locations. If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
As another note on flyfishing, I fished Putah Creek (near Winters, CA) for two days in the rain, and while it's a "technical" (meaning difficult) creek to fish due to creek layout and overhanging vegetation, not to mention brambles, it offered up a 15" trout - and I'm no expert. It is difficult to fish there! Fish are very wary of flies. It is suggested that it not be fished during winter, but with only one fish, I was there for the casting practice and losing my flies in the trees... :)! It is all C&R and barbless hooks, and at this time of year, spawning, so one has to be careful of those areas.

Here are my comments in CAPS in your message:

Hello fish fam,I am excited to announce that I will be putting together this years NorCal Meet & Greet, GREAT IDEA, I HOPE IT GETS SUPPORTED BY MEMBERS IN N/CAL. which will be taking place May 5TH 6Th and 7TH,it will be at the same location as last years,Clear Lake Campground 7805 Cache Creek Way,Clearlake,CA,95422,they have space to accommodate trailers, the spots are 25’ up 40’ long and 18-24’ wide, they offer full hook ups and a 30amp hook up,also room for tent camping(1 car per spot,1 tent per spot, and 2 people max,no overnight guests, only those registered for said spot) last years, which was put on by saw1 and 40GRIT was a lot of fun, great to put a face and personality with the texts and bio pic, let’s keep it going,ok,I’m asking for everyone interested in going to give feedback on what’s being asked here,Tee shirts, would everyone be willing to spend $20 for an event shirt? YES. THAT IS IN KEEPING WITH OTHER T SHIRTS THAT I HAVE SEEN. And long or short sleeve? CAN YOU OFFER BOTH FOR THE SAME PRICE? IF I HAD TO PICK I WOULD SAY SHORT SLEEVE. Size? HMMM, THAT DEPENDS A LOT ON THE SHIRT COMPANY. EVEN 1/2" OF MATERIAL SPREAD OVER THOUSANDS OF T SHIRTS AFFECT PRICES CONSIDERABLY, SO CHINESE-MADE SHIRTS ARE JUNK BUT CHEAP. I HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU GO WITH A BETTER BRAND (LIKE HANES). AS I SAID, CHEAPER SHIRTS ARE THIN, DON'T LAST AND SHRINK A LOT!! The money made on the shirt sales would fund a BBQ dinner for all attendees on Saturday night at the camp site, not everyone may be there Friday night,I’m talking burgers, hotdogs, beans, potato salad, green salad, and garlic bread, beer or alcohol will be BYOB, YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN CONSIDER OFFERING ANY KIND OF ALCOHOL. YOUR LIABILITY WOULD BE SIGNIFICANT. I WOULD EVEN GO SO FAR AS TO HAVE A SIGN THAT SAYS THAT YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AT THE EVENT AND HAVE IT UP ON THE SIDE OF A VEHICLE OR SOMETHING. AFTER ALL, IT IS CALIFORNIA AND PEOPLE ARE LAWSUIT HAPPY HERE. as I am not taking responsibility for that, feedback on this?? The shirt would have the date, place,FishingStage name, and some type of bass design on back, again, feedback? GREAT. Now for boats, there is a boat landing near by the campground, the employees at the ramp are very strict about you being up to date on your boats paperwork, especially the muscle tag, which you can obtain from your local DMV, it will be far more expensive at the ramp, and it is a procedure in order to have it done, please be prepared, make sure your boat is ready to go and running well, please state if you are bringing a boat ,as last year, the people who brought boats up were generous enough to allow others who have come up to go fishing, without boats, some time to fish on the water in a boat, THAT IS A GENEROUS OFFER AND IT'S ONE THAT I WOULD TAKE UP. of course, only taking what can safely be seated and fished out of, we try and rotate those without a boat onto the boats for this experience, with that being said, please Google Map the surrounding fishing banks and docks in the area of our campground, or where you possibly would want to drive to to fish, just in case not everybody has the opportunity to get on a boat,a bit of gas money offered to the boat owners is greatly appreciated, again, I MIGHT SAY THAT SHOULD BE PART OF THE DEAL - PARTICIPANTS ARE EXPECTED TO HELP WITH FUEL... please tell me ahead of time if you plan on bringing a boat so I can make sure the campsite has parking for our vehicles,it will be your responsibility to bring food, water, beer, alcohol, etc etc only Saturday nights dinner will be offered to all,if the shirt idea is a go,it will be your responsibility to bring your own camping gear/fishing gear, the campground does have a shower available, bring toiletries. The weather is usually nice this time of year, still tho be prepared,Now,we all know of Clearlake’s reputation for record bass, and we all also know that skunks are ever present, don’t give up and bring a bit of everything to throw at the fish!! Some nice fish were caught last year. Let’s get those interested in going to commit ASAP, I want to be able to reserve enough spots to accommodate everybody, and I would like to get us in side-by-side campsites if possible, the later it takes to get a number of how many people will be attending, the more of a chance we will be spread out amongst the campsites, and not as a big group, the whole purpose is to meet people from the forum,I want feedback on the possibility of a event T-shirt sale to fund a barbecue, WHY NOT OFFER A RAFFLE FOR A COUPLE OF T SHIRTS? THAT WOULD BRING IN SOME MONEY. MAYBE A RAFFLE FOR SOMETHING ELSE? (LURES? FISHING LINE? GIFT CERTIFICATE? OTHER...?) I need to hear from you guys bringing boats, let’s get this thing rolling people! Last year’s was a ton of fun and I want to try and make this year’s a little better, I am sure there is some thing I am forgetting here, but if you have any questions please send me a PM, and if I do not have the answer for you, I will get it for you. I want to try and make this an annual event, let’s do this fishing Fam!!! GOOD COMMENTS ABOUT MONEY COLLECTION, AND OTHER IDEAS. AGAIN, GREAT IDEA. CLEAR LAKE HAS THAT REPUTATION FOR RECORD SETTING CATCHES. GOOD JOB IN DOING THIS!!

One other thought - I’ve been making my own tapered leaders (#4, 5, 6 line) but find I get “wind” knots from getting caught on my own knots fairly easily. I now spend the money to buy the Rio brand tapered #5 leaders, and have at least reduced my problem somewhat.

Gonna try steelhead on the Klamath next! Any tips appreciated…

“Presentation” is everything. Soft landing with #6 line will get you out of the problem of a hard landing. And how you use you arm vs the wrist - and practice!!! I’ve been practicing on grass and on the ponds several time a week.

I live trap them, and dispose of them. They are (in my view) dangerous and can make real damage that can be expensive. On a weight to cost comparison maybe not as much as rats and Lexus wiring…. My neighbor has lost a cat and dog to raccoons. Pesky critters…!

I could not agree with you more. Great group of people. Dues are ridiculously inexpensive. I think I paid $30 from memory. I practice at least once a week.

I’m reasonably good with the standard 9’ fly rod, but I just about hung myself when I try to wind up the Spey rod. Just so elegant.

Having rediscovered fly fishing over the last year, and as abalone diving off the Northern California coast is banned at least for the next several years, and as salmon fishing off the same areas has been spotty (great to zero), sometimes one comes across real gems that you never realized were there. Where to practice fly casting? Well, in GGP right in the middle are concrete ponds and the Angling Club that supports them. Who knew?! (And right next to the Buffalo enclosure…). To watch an expert cast with a double handed Spey rod is really a thing of beauty. So easy to look at. So hard to do. Free classes once a month, very welcoming group of anglers. See their website.

Just thought I’d add this topic for some variety. I tried to add some video but apparently this site does not accept that medium.

Seeing these big reservoirs so low is shocking and scary. Shasta in Northern California is very low as well. If it’s another dry year in California, we will be in one big world of hurt!!!
