I’ve been using my pontoon most recently since it’s been so hot, and really fun to be close on the water. I need to work on more scenery shots too. I know I don’t catch the most or biggest, but I know it’s not a competition either and hope you all enjoy.
So two weekends ago I went to a high mountain lake and camped out too. This lake is chock full of grayling and cutthroat trout. Nothing very big but any fish that will rise to dry flies is super fun, especially on a 3 wt.
First shot is a grayling, tried to get a shot of dorsal fin, but super hard when trying to release unharmed. They have a super cool iridescent color when the light is right. Second shot is a real trophy pulled off the internet to show you the dorsal fin. Grayling are related to trout and salmon case you didn’t know, and good indicator of clean, healthy water.
This last weekend visited another high mountain lake with beautiful clear water. Wind came up as soon as I launched but still had a good time although a struggle to fish. Sorry no scenery shots. I got skunked, but saw one fish looking at a crankbait I was throwing at some down timber along the shoreline.
After getting skunked I needed a fishin fix, you know the ‘tug’. Went to the local pond for some bass. Caught and released over a dozen Lm. Lost a few too, as they were fiesty and would clear the water. Mostly on drop-shot, green pumpkin KVD dreamshot, then I switched to a Gulp 2” minnow and was still catching fish up to when I called it about 4 pm during hottest part of the day.
Enjoy and tight lines.

We went out for about 4 hours today, caught gills and bass but nothing picture worthy. Trolling motor didn't seem to be running right so I put my charger on the first battery, it had a 75% charge. Put it on the second battery, showed 40% but only 6 volts!

Called my motor fixing guy up here and he sent me to one of his friends. $127 each. Stopped by a True Value on the way back, same battery was $159! I call that a score.

Installed the batteries then it was time to get the fryer going. Fried things that puffed up kinda like a churro, onion rings and fish. Had a great meal. May do it again this week.

If the oil temp was finicky - maybe it needs a new battery also - I know that was bad but couldn’t resist after the trolling motor episode. Have a great time and eat well. From the pics the eating will be fantastic!! Enjoy the vacation with family.

We finally got us some rain yesterday,
Was needed, we're really dry here.
The thick fog was calling for me to go play,
My sweet wife concurred, what a dear.
Was slow right at first, conditions were great,
I just knew topwater would work,
I threw it, and wormed, and slung a crankbait,
Then finally I felt a light jerk.
Since nothing was working, I threw what I love,
That big noisy Hoodler that's brown.
The fog lifted later with clear skies above,
But I didn't put my rod down.
I snagged a Kentucky, a nice Blackie, too.
Both keepers, that put up a fight.
Then suddenly there was a hullabaloo,
I rared back and set the hook right.
It felt like forever, that big'n fought me,
She jumped up 2 feet in the air.
She shook her head twice, was not meant to be,
Came loose, but I didn't care.
It's great when the hawgs hit a topwater lure,
And when they do, boy, I feel blessed.
I'm happy with any size bass, for sure.
That's obvious, you should've guessed.
