Get the best of two worlds. Hurricane makes a fantastic boat that’s a deck boat with a regular boat hull. Mine has a 115 4 stroke fuel injected Yamaha and can push the boat at 40 mph all day. It’s comfortable, lots of seating space, lots of storage, with a live well. The down side is they’re a bit expensive.
Best rod for the price... GX2... Yup, they’re better rods out there, but I can’t afford them.
The tie up fees at Avalon are not that expensive, and well worth it. There is a water taxi, also reasonable that will pick you up at your boat and bring you back. Two Harbors on the back side is a better deal and near great fishing. Two Harbors is also much calmer... a favorite for sailors.
Nice catch! Thanks for the pics
Excellent story. My Father was a WWII and Korea vet. Dad kept the Corsairs flying; he would’ve loved the story. All vets, thank you for your service.
When I was in my 20’s... a million years ago, I’m now 70, I speared a 21 pound amber jack while SCUBA diving on an ammunition wreck off Daytona Beach. I was using a pole spear with a paralyzed point. When I hit that fish, all hell broke loose. I have never had such a fight... I’m just glad it was only 21 pounds. Great eating fish though.
Looks like a long nose bat fish.
Do you have other clearer pictures? I agree, it looks shark related.
Ditto on the bridges! Live shrimp works great. Fish when the tides are active; slack tide doesn’t work well. You never know what you might catch from the bridges. Have fun!
My father was bitten by a copperhead while wade fishing for flounder. He stepped from the water to a grassy knoll that stuck out into the water. The snake was hidden in the grass and nailed him on the ankle. Dad was floundering in the shallows off Cherry Point NC. Fortunately, Dad had a Marine buddy with him and was taken to the base hospital.
Harbor Freight has some nice tires that may work. When you make your surf fishing cart, please post pictures. I want to build one also. Happy building!
Venomous snakes are deaf... all the noise in the world won’t scare them... just watch your step and you’ll be fine.
