Well it’s Christmas Eve and with our abnormal winter in the northland, it was bound to happen! We have been watching the brave souls that are tooo fish hungry, venturing out onto potentially thin ice! Well, it happened this morning! It rained here overnight(still raining now) and a hard sided fish house has gone through the ice! It was one of three on the bay where we live. First and foremost, in my opinion, I think they’re idiots! It has been unseasonably warm all winter so far. We just watched the owner walk out to it to survey his dilemma! It’s been all over the news! Use some common sense! Now his problem is, he has to wait for a good freeze for it to be safe and thereby make better ice which will turn his fish house into a giant block of ice! Hopefully no one will get harmed( or killed) with this fiasco! Sorry for venting about this dudes bad circumstances! Use your heads people!

Way too warm to scout Twin Cities ice spots. How far north is good ice found to go out even with theses warm days coming?

Around Alexandria, some folks have ventured out on foot! A few portables but mostly bucket squatters! When it’s in the upper thirties and low forties, in ain’t makin ice! If you go out, use a chisel, have ice picks, and wear your PFD! Might be safer to go to CUB and buy a package of Mrs Paul’s!

Wow. It has been a very long time since I had any dealings with coffee and it may partially depend on the supplier but Jamaica Blue Mountain wholesaled for over $10 a pound. I bought my bulk coffees from White Mountain Coffee in New York State.

Sorry Mr Wolff, I stand corrected! Ours is a Jamaican blend! We haven’t had “real” Blue Mountain in quite a while.
Also my wife informed me that the blend we bought was on sale. Regularly $16 a bag

Jamaica Blue Mountain is one of the premier coffees of the world. Most excellent for flavor and all other things coffee. Very premium price if memory serves.

Not to much different than a French roast or a breakfast blend. Get it for $14 for 28 oz

Wife and I have become accustomed to Jamaican Blue Mountain. We like whole bean coffee. Seems fresher with the oils very noticeable! Usually 1 pot, but on the weekends, we may find ourselves making a second pot, served with some Kahlua or Irish Cream

Buddy Heaters are very safe. Propane does not give off CO2 when burned. It gives off water vapor. They are the only "flame" heaters rated safe for use inside a camper or motor home. BUT, the propane tank must be kept outside! I have a Big Buddy and it heats my 370 sq. ft. garage perfectly. It will raise the temperature from 40° F to 68° F in less than an hour and then maintain it on half power. No odors, either. I set the tank just outside the garage door.

I think I have to disagree! When we were building our house, we needed temp heat for the gypcrete to dry, and not freeze for 10 days. Had my propane guy set me up with a portable heater. He refused unless I put in CO detectors.
I did. Hooked up the heaters and by the next morning the alarms were screaming! I aired out the house and fired up the heater a second time. Before long the CO detectors were sounding again! We went and got electric and lived to talk about it!

Thanks Jeremy,
I hadn't thought about diesel heaters.
Looking over the data diesel would be.more cost efficient over the short term. Propane over the long term but less efficient.
It might make sense to purchase diesel for the winter months just in case.
My son-in-law drives a diesel pickup. I'm sure he wouldn't mind some free fuel come spring time.
Stagers I need your options on this one. I'm a complete numb here.
What would be better for a winter power outage for a 16×20 garage that we could shelter in place if necessary?
All options and suggestions are welcome.
Commander Bell out.
Thanks Jeremy, br I hadn't thought about diesel he... (show quote)

I would consider a smaller generator/inverter. It can sit outside. You could run an extension cord under the garage door to power an electric heater and a lamp or two. There are dual fuel, gas, propane. They have a run time of 8 hrs or more depending on power draw. DO NOT USE THEM INSIDE THE CLOSED GARAGE, EVER!

Be cautious please! Using portable heaters indoors without ventilation can and will kill you! Many unsuspecting ice fishermen perish due to carbon monoxide poisoning! Make sure you have a “ working” CO detector in any area you plan to use a portable gas heater! PLEASE!

SIL stopped over to show me his new car!! It was a Lamborghini!! Don’t know which model. We pulled out of my driveway and navigated the “S” curves and hit the straight way! Using the paddle shifter on the steering wheel, we were doing a buck fifty in seconds! Holy Crapoly! We turned around and headed back. He hit those “S” curves, speed limit, 45, at 80! Holy Crapoly! Kinda amazing screaming along at like 3 inches off the ground!

I was doing 78 in a 70 on I-94 in Minnesota, and got rear ended so hard I had all I could do to keep it on the road! His Jeep was totaled and my pickup had 23K in damage! What speed limits😳😳? Hey, I’m crazy, but regularly cruising over 80, I don’t know!

Got me a pellet gun a couple years back to deal with a chipmunk problem! Was never a hunter so it was a learning curve. Pellets are really cheap and the grandkids love plinking those little red squirrels around the bird feeders!

My wife came into possession of her grandmas foil tree with the color wheel! Had to buy a new color wheel but the bride is kinda giddy about the whole thing! Our place is small so the “maintenance free” tree works (for now)😁

I lived a mile outside of town, south of the Twin Cities, on a blacktop road. Got 3 deer in 13 months! Same car, same quarter panel! The body shop got pretty good at the repairs after all the “practice” I provided them!
