Thanks for the words of wisdom. We should remind ourselves of that every day as we go through life.

I did some research when I got home and discovered it was a cross between a Male Brown Trout and female Brook Trout. Will be going back in the spring to try catching another one but one that has grown some.

I Recently spent two nights camping out NE of Pioche, NV at Eagle Valley Reservoir (10/24 to 10/26). Was told over 3,000 trout were stocked just two weeks before and I was excited to wet a line. Caught three 6/7 inch Brook trout the first afternoon releasing two. Fished a few hours before noon the second day and only caught one Brook trout.

Finally found a honey hole and caught about 14 trout. Caught three nice Rainbow that I kept, and several 7 to 8-inch stocked Brook Trout that I released. Then among the brook trout, I caught one strange trout I had never seen before. Snapped several pictures then released it.

They have been around a long time and don’t appear to be a problem.

After looking up Rudd I found you to be right on. Looked just like the ones I caught in Sheridan Lake last summer. Thanks for the response and info.

What did you catch them on? I'm heading out to the hills next week and planning on doing some fishing up that way.

Nightcrawlers on a single hook with an approximately 3-foot leader, and swivel below a slip bobber. Retrieve slowly letting nightcrawler drift along behind slip bobber.

I spent most of the summer at my brother's place outside Custer, SD where it was very quiet and peaceful compared to Las Vegas. Brother and I fished several days and caught fish (trout mostly) each time successfully.

Each year my brothers, kids, niece, nephews, and grandkids gather for a week of camping and fishing at Deerfield Reservoir in the Black Hills. Where the fishing was great, great weather, and very relaxing.

I caught over 20 Rainbow Trout during my summer there. I have posted pictures of my PB Rainbow to date.
17 1/2 inch and 2 pounds along with several 17" and 1 1/2 pounds. The morning I caught my biggest one I also caught 4 more for my daily limit.

The SD Fish and Game stocked over 2000 trout the week prior to the Labor Day weekend and to my knowledge none of the fish I caught were stocked trout. Could tell by the red coloring of the flesh that they had been feeding on lake algae and weeds. Sorry, that we didn't invite anyone to have trout with us (grilled at our campsite). Next year if you happen to be in the area (Dutchman Campground) look us up. We reserve three to four campsites every year to fit all of us together.

Also wanted to share the fish my brother and I caught from Sylvan lake NE of Custer the second morning there

Caught two of these that I Caught in Sheridan Lake, South Dakota and not sure what they are. Both were about 6 inches. I did a little investigation on my own and believe to be a Golden Shiner all grown up.
Any help would be appreciated.

We’ll we did well fishing on Roubaix Lk. However does the season close on trout there this week? I read how fishing season is open near round in South Dakota but the campground people said this was the last week of fishing or is it next week? We will be headed back to Wisconsin on Saturday fishing was good yesterday as well but just curious for next year

I have been visiting the Black Hills for camping at Deerfield with family each year over Labor Day weekend for nearly 10 years.

It is true that fishing season lasts all year long in South Dakota however several of the campgrounds close around the middle of September, therefore access to fishing is closed as well. There are still access to several larger lakes for fishing all year. Ice fishing during winter included.

I had really good luck catching rainbow trout at Deerfield while camping there at Dutchman CG last week. Access is still available after the campgrounds are closed.

my first time here would like to find out fishing at stockade lake in custer state park

Hello John:

Not too sure how good the fishing is at Stockade Lake. But a short drive North of Custer to Sylvan Lake for some trout fishing. My brother and I caught 5 trout this past Monday from shore using night crawlers fished on the bottom. Hope this helps.

I second that! Have thought the safest place to park my car was next to where the shopping carts are supposed to be returned. Sometimes can't even pull into a parking spot because of one or two carts already parked there!!

I appreciate the tip regarding the 3” Berkeley worm. I wonder if it would work hooked in the middle “wacky worm” style. Perhaps if I ever make it out West again I get a chance to try it both ways. Thanks.

Thanks AzRando71. Will have to give that a try next year when I plan another trip to Pine Valley.

Spent three nights camping at the Pine Valley campground and reservoir with my favorite pastime of trout fishing last week. did some fishing and catching. Caught my personal best trout this trip which was my 10th camping trip in 8 years.

I was using my recent go-to bait using a 3-inch Berkley Power Bait pink plastic worm. Have had success here and in South Dakota for Rainbow Trout.

Will be going to Custer, SD to spend a couple of months with my brother and a planned fishing trip at Deerfield over Labor Day weekend. Not to mention one or more days fishing before and after that.

Sounds like Smith222 may have trouble getting pictures posted. I wasn't sure what to do until it was explained to someone on another post.

Hello Smith222. Saying hi from another Smith from Las Vegas. Glad to hear of another Nevada angler with a case of "Fish Fever". I will be satisfying my case with a trip to Pine Valley, UT for three days of fishing starting Monday with some camping thrown in! Good luck at "catching" and stay hooked!!

Headed back to Windsor tomorrow mornin. Probably go out Striper fishin with Brad Saturday. If I do, I'll take some pics. 🤠👍

Nice catch of Rainbows you have there Saw. I hope I do as well on my camping trip next week to Pine Valley, UT.
It's a three hour drive from Las Vegas for me, with a beautiful campground, and I catch my limit of trout this time of year (released a little more than that last couple years). Will try to get pictures to post of course.
