Welcome Tina, why go all the way to Grand Lake St. Mary’s when Alum Creek is in your backyard? Good bass fishing in the north pool, and kayak launch docks at the Howard rd. boat launch. Just a suggestion from a fellow Westervillian. Good luck! You might also want to join a Facebook group called “Ohio Alum creek fishing reports and photos” As they say around here tight lines!

Good luck, loved visiting HHI
Yes, we have always caught fish there. Just above the concrete culvert is a large pond. Brackish water I think. I’ve cast lures in there a few times, without any luck. But, you never know. I guess with all the fish we were catching below the culvert, I didn’t try the pond real hard
Hey Steve, for many years fished in Braddocks cove behind port villas. Caught a lot of redfish, sea trout, and smaller flounder on live shrimp and a popping cork. Always fished on the incoming and outgoing tide. Port villas are on the right hand side just before you get to south beach marina area (salty dog) We would always visit the first two weeks of October. I don’t think they will let you on the condo docks anymore, unless you are renting one of the villas. But you can stand on top of the large culvert and fish from there.
In Central Ohio, on Alum Creek reservoir by far the two top swim baits are Big Joshy and Hog Hunter Swim baits
Smithwick rogues come in a clown pattern ( white body and red head) Just purchased some from bass pro shop. Like using them for saugeye
My Daughter is a freshman at Hillsdale. I’m glad someone asked about the fishing conditions up there. I plan on doing some fishing up near cold water or some of the other lakes up there. I look forward to hearing some of the replies. Welcome to the forum
Think safety first! Good ice cleats, and the ice picks are a great start, mentioned in a previous post. My ice picks are connected to a 4’ length of rope. I drape these around my neck for easy access. I’ve only gone through once, and have had the ice picks with me ever since. The rope can also be used to pull someone else out. Also, always check ice thickness, I like 4” of clear, not cloudy or milky looking ice. Clear ice is strong! Have fun and enjoy! If at all nervous about ice conditions, look for other fisherman and start there. Good luck.
I’ve always froze my fillets (perch, walleye and saugeye) in Ziploc bags top off with water. Got a Vacuum sealer for Christmas. All these great tips will pay off, thank you all! You all have a great new year!
Both above dam and below spillway. Most guys have been fishing on the lake side on top of the dam lately. Throwing smithwick rogues, big Joshy and Hawg Hunter jigs.
Ben, That sounds good too! I have about 8 lbs. perch still in the freezer from this fall. Have been casting Alum Creek for saugeye the last couple of weeks w/o any success. But Alum has been really been hot after dark lately. Happy Holidays!
Being from Ohio, like Ben, perch, saugeye, walleye, and bluegill are my top four. Have never had sauger, so not sure where they would rank.
Alum evening and night daughter bite is really picking up
