Hey friends,
Heading to Hilton Head in April. What’s the lowdown on surf fishing Calibogue Sound and is there good fishing in all those landlocked brown stained lagoons? (I assume brackish water?) We visited in December and now I’m itching to try them. Also, comments on the fresh water pond fishing in Sea Pines Plantation nature preserve?
Thanks
Steve
Hey Steve, for many years fished in Braddocks cove behind port villas. Caught a lot of redfish, sea trout, and smaller flounder on live shrimp and a popping cork. Always fished on the incoming and outgoing tide. Port villas are on the right hand side just before you get to south beach marina area (salty dog) We would always visit the first two weeks of October. I don’t think they will let you on the condo docks anymore, unless you are renting one of the villas. But you can stand on top of the large culvert and fish from there.
Thanks for the input. I know exactly where you mean.
Yes, we have always caught fish there. Just above the concrete culvert is a large pond. Brackish water I think. I’ve cast lures in there a few times, without any luck. But, you never know. I guess with all the fish we were catching below the culvert, I didn’t try the pond real hard
Good luck, loved visiting HHI
