Yes, night crawlers on # 6 or 8 worm hook with small split shot weight and Bobber for bluegills. For bass, Texas rig with 3ot or 4ot wide gap hook with a Senco or craw attached. You might want to look at videos as well...I'm hearing a lot of folks using the drop shot method right now because the bass maybe in deeper waters...good luck!

What Dambass said! Match the hatch; determine the forage. If it's a private pond, then it probably doesn't get much pressure, if any, and the fish will pretty much inhale anything. T-rigged senkos for the bass and crawlers for the gills. If there's surface vegetation, pads, etc. and you hear frog noises, then try a top water, hollow body frog imitation. You might get lucky with a topwater blowup!

Just got back from a week of vacation up in LG, NY. Got plenty of fishing in off my kyak.
The smallies seemed to prefer purple worms this year. Wednesday was a great day for me as I managed to boat 4 with one big one spitting the hook during a jump about 10 ft from the yak. When things slow down I go to my ultra light and catch bluegills for fun. This is the only week I use the yak nowadays since I’ve joined the boating club here on LI, and my only week of fresh water fishing. Its an annual trip that I always look forward to. This is the only fish I photoed although I caught a few larger. By the way, these Shakey Head jugs really hold the bait well.

Textbook perfect hookset too! Upper lip, roof of the mouth. Thanks for posting!

Are St. Croix rod blanks made in the US, or China?

Got this from the St. Croix site: "St. Croix’s facility in Park Falls, Wisconsin manufactures our Legend, Avid, Mojo and other rod series....Our newest manufacturing plant is a state-of-the-art factory in Fresnillo, Mexico. St. Croix’s vertical manufacturing ensures that every rod is produced start-to-finish right there on the premises, including the award winning Mojo series. Just like in the U.S., there is no outsourcing and everything is made using the most advanced materials, with the same high-tech machinery."
So a subset of their products are made in Mexico, but the statements "produced start-to-finish" and "there is no outsourcing" implies the blanks are domestically produced, at least in North America?

Just got a flashback to that old Mazola commercial: "You call it corn, but we call it maize." Lol

Always have best success with fast retrieve. slow does not make it work as designed. I might suggest getting some red finger nail polish and run a small red streak down each side.

Ah! The bleeding baitfish trick! Thanks for the tip!

Although I use the improved clinch as well for bulkier presentations, palomar is my go to for cranks, jigs, T-rigs, and finesse presentations. Much easier and faster than the improved clinch (or for that matter most other knots), no twists, and extremely secure.

Nice bass Smokey! Thanks for posting the pix. Lol, I thought from the title this was going to be a discussion about the Googans and/or their bait, both of which I have strong opinions about!

Crank bait lure, split shad rap #7 or for early morning surface throws, whopper popper, black

Jake - curious about your black whopper plopper. Is it the all black matte or the loon (black with white trim, which is what I have)? It hasn't been productive for me at all, either burning, slow rolling or walking the dog. I may have to take a black sharpie and color it over completely if that's what seals the deal! What retrieve do you use?

Comes down to Oakley vs. Costa, both of which are too much bank for me! However what friends have told me is Costas have better optics but Oakleys are more rugged (standard military issue!). I tried a friend's Costas and no kidding they blew my Wallyworld StrikeKings out of the water, the clarity and filtering were that good!

I'm not a low profile fan but do have a couple. Recently got an inexpensive Kastking but haven't tried it out yet. Also Have a Dawia RG that is really nice reed. Put 4# line on it and got an ugly stick 6' med action rod and really like it for a light casting rod. Don't recall what the reel cost but probably around $50 and the rod came from Walmart for $38. I'd recommend it!

Don - have heard & read mixed reviews on Kastking reels but still keeping an eye on their stuff. What model reel? I'd be interested to hear what you think after you've used it a few times.

If you notice I've got on a long sleeve shirt and long pants, the mosquitoes aren't to bad here but sometimes you'll run into a bunch of them. I have a Thurmocell which keeps them mostly at bay. Normally after the dew falls the critters like that stop moving.

on the Thermocell. Been a gamechanger for me.

Two 2
oz jigs in a high/low fashion. The top one had a 4 inch salmon red swimming mullet and the bottom one had a white six inch swimming mullet. Caught a few short ones too.

Thanks for the tip harryb. Fish for flounder down here on Chincoteague Bay and I'm always curious about what other folks use. Gulps have always worked well for me.

harryb - Gulp mullets and grubs seem to be a flounder angler staple. What weight jig were you throwing?
