Mine was mounted on a VINTAGE FENWICK PLS65 SPINNING ROD FERALITE. Can’t count the number of trout I landed with that rig.

It’s possible the line crossed or dug in.

Hang on sloopy is right. The line should be coming off of the top of the spool.

Ya I’m blessed for sure. Retired here In Costa Rica. I’ve connected with a great charter operator. Been out with him four times and have landed eight sailfish and a couple of Dorado.

When you hire a guide you can learn, and when you are learning you are doing much. In the 50s and 60s I fished with my great uncle who was a guide, at Cedar Key, Fl, and learned much that I still use in fresh, and salt water. Wish I had had more time on the water with him.

That is so true. While bill fishing is very specialized, there are many little details that have broader application.

What is the thinking behind catching sail fish? I know a lot of skill and work is involved but beyond that I don't really understand the desire to catch one.

Sailfish are the fastest swimming fish in the ocean. Fishing for them, like all billfish is pure sport.

It’s not every trip you get 3 nice fish and a “the one that got away” story. The deck hand assured me that the tuna we hooked was “grande”. We fought it for at least 20 minutes on heavy tackle before the hook pulled out.

Haven’t ever fished for halibut from the beach but from a boat, we mostly used bait.

Having last lived in Alaska, my dream fish was a 30”+ Rainbow but now that we live in Costa Rica, it’s a 200 lb.+ Marlin. 😊
