KastKing Sharky III 3000. I have the KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder 4000 on my 7 foot Ugly Stick Catfish rod loaded with KastKing 65 pound test braid line which is the equivalent diameter of 8 pound test mono and you talk about smooth with exceptional long casts it is unbelievable. It is an inexpensive high quality reel as are all KastKing reels. I have 6 Ugly Sticks with 4 of them paired with KastKing reels and the other 2 paired with Pflueger Presidents which is another low cost exceptional reel. It is your choice but take it from me get on YouTube and do some extensive research before you make a final decision.

I just ran across an outdated can of biscuits in my refrigerator and am going to tear them apart and roll into small 1/2 inch or so balls with a small amount of minced garlic embedded in them. Hopefully they will work as catfish bait or any other fish that enjoys garlic and bread dough.

I have 6 Ugly Sticks and one of them is over 50 years old and still looks brand new. The other 5 are comparatively new and I doubt I will ever own anything other than an Ugly Stick due to its durability and how comfortable it is overall. The one I have that is 50 years old was my very first rod and I was so impressed with its toughness and sensitivity I have never held another brand of rod over the years since I have been fishing. There are I am sure some fine rods in the market but I will never know which ones they are.

And another can of worms opened and I ain’t talking about fishing worms. It is fun though watching everyone squirm trying to explain why a bass rod is only good for catching bass. As it is I have 6 Ugly Sticks I now wonder what they are good for. So far over the last month they haven’t caught anything so maybe considering they are not classified for a certain fish I will never catch anything. Sadly it may come to the point where it’s back to my recliner watching TV to pass my time away.

I see these descriptions of rods and reels for specific kinds of fish and was wondering if the fish really know the kind of rod or reel you are using. Maybe that is why I have a problem catching fish, I am not using the right kind of rod or reel for the kind of fish I am fishing for because they ignore the bait if it isn’t attached to a rod made especially for them. Like a crappie won’t bite If you are using a rod advertised as a bass rod.

Yes I know it sounds stupid but no more so than actually buying a rod or reel advertised as a rod or reel for bass or other species of fish. Rods and reels are made to catch any kind of fish so let’s be realistic, the fish honestly do not know what kind of rod or reel you are using. They are only interested in what you are trying to feed them be it real or artificial.

Do Y’All know the world record cat was caught with Spam as bait? 119+ pounds. Don’t remember which species of cat it was though. BTW, I wrap my chicken liver up in a small piece of pantyhose to keep it intact on the hook.

I am of the opinion that if one listens to FDA, doctors and dieticians about what to eat or not to eat you would starve to death or at the very least never be healthy. I am 80 years old and pass for 60-65 to most people. The only major health problem I have is a bad back which I was born with. I eat what I want and pay little to no attention to the so called experts on diet. For as long as I can remember certain species of fish are reputed to be unhealthy if not downright deadly. To give one example of the utter stupidity of some doctors I read the other day that avacados are unhealthy and shouldn’t be eaten. I basically live on fish and vegetables and have for the last several years. Rather than beef I eat bison when I feel the need for a hamburger or a recipe calls for beef. It is expensive but my health is more important than a few dollars difference between beef and bison. Salmon is also expensive but there again it is the healthiest of all fish. Granted you need to watch your diet but not at the expense of the know it all so called experts.

What a profound question. Having never thought about it it is next to impossible to give a really intelligent answer. I have never been one to actually fish for any reason than to put food on the table. For the most part I keep what I catch except for those that are to small or a fish I don’t care for. My primary fish likes are cat, trout and salmon so anything other than that are usually released. Yes I know many people like crappie, bass, perch, etc. but I have never acquired a taste for anything other than cat, trout and salmon. I have fish at least 4 times a week for dinner and when I buy salmon it is always wild caught as is cat and trout if I have to buy rather than catch. So you might say I have no moral dilemma when it comes to catching fish because they in a way help me sustain my health and life.

Somebody explain to me this obsession with having a thousand yards of line on a reel. If you can cast over 40-50 yards you are doing well. If you let a fish run for over a hundred yards you need to give up fishing. Now ocean fishing is another matter so long lengths of line are needed but lake and stream fishing should require no more than 100-150 yards of line on a reel. I am older than dirt and when I was a boy 20-30 feet of string hand held or on a cane pole caught as many fish as the modern day expensive rods and reels. The major problem is that today’s fishermen have been brainwashed into thinking they need the high dollar fishing gear to catch a fish. Not so and if you think differently you are no smarter than that worm you use for bait.

KastKing Spartacus or actually about any KastKing baitcasting or spinning reel is worth its weight in gold. Research them on YouTube and then decide before you buy a high dollar reel and are sorry afterwards. I know I will never buy another reel other than KastKing. Just like I don’t use any rod other than an Ugly Stick.

I have a Pflueger President spincast reel on my 50 year old Ugly Stick casting rod and of all my rod and reels it is my go to setup and always will be. I used Zebco all my life until I bought the Pflueger President but don’t get me wrong folks, Zebco makes a very fine reel but I do like my Pflueger. In my opinion anybody that feels spincast reels are inferior are themselves inferior and needs to step back and reconsider their usefulness.

There are a dozen different ways and means of cleaning your hands. I go to Amazon and order wipes especially made for cleaning hands after handling fish. They come in a 20-30 pop-up pack and are very effective.

I have an over 50 year old 5’-6” casting rod with the pistol grip handle and on more than one occasion bent it nearly double and it still looks and fishes like new. Of the 6 Ugly Stick Elite, Gx2 and Catfish rods I have it is still my go to rod. It is presently paired with a Pflueger President spin casting reel which in my opinion is as good as it gets. Get your Ugly Stick and fish worry free for as long as you are able to fish because it will out last you and your grandchildren.

From Indiana also but living in Ohio at present. Pulled many a fish out of Monroe Reservoir back in the 70’s while a student at IU. Actually was born and raised a stones throw from the reservoir in Oolitic and fished Salt Creek and other nearby streams as a kid before there was a Monroe reservoir.
