Ugly stiks are subpar, and have been coasting on their name for quite a while now.. You can get a much better rod for the same price nowadays

Hope you enjoy it more than I did, I was back to the spinner the next season, just couldn’t get a far cast with the bait caster

I can cast much further with my baitcasting gear than spinning gear. Maybe you gave up on it a bit too soon.

I actually still use a caster for heavier baits over 2oz but for my typical jig and spinner bait set up I can whip baits so much further with a spinner than I could with a baitcaster

I can fly fish, surf fish, pier fish, mangrove shallows fish, river fish, all kinds of fishin'. I have my whole life, but I cannot for the life of me cast a baitcaster without birdsnesting it. I just don't see the advantage either. Spin casting or fly casting is all you really need imo

That's like me saying "I couldn't get the hang of fly casting, casting a fly behind a bubble is suitable for fly fishing."
The advantage is control. If you put the effort in, you can much more easily and accurately cast lures into tight windows, as well as have the power in the reel to wrench fish from cover.

Risk- reward for me. I'd rather spend time fishing than fixing birdsnesting and in my 25 years of fishing I have not 'missed' having one. I am very accurate with a spinning reel and feel much more confident.
Baitcasters are weird man. I am right hand dominant so I cast with my right hand, then I have to switch hands to reel it in? It's just never made sense to me. I'd rather cast with right hand and reel with left hand but left handed baitcasters are hard to find.
Different strokes for different folks I guess and the important thing is that whatever reel you use the lines stay wet and tight.

If that's the stock reel, I'd say use it until it breaks then get a better one. I never enjoyed using that ugly stik baitcaster. I switched mine to a black max with braid and couldn't be happier. Other than that, welcome to the family! I love ugly stiks and I wish I could make my entire arsenal ugly stiks but unfortunately I can't.

Good luck with that one. Ugly Stiks are pieces of junk, especially for baitcasting, and super especially for their baitcasting reels. Every person that's bought that rod at my store returned it to complain to me out about it.

TobiasFF, I just bought my first bait caster. But b4, thought about just what you said. Right hand casting and then switching hands. Since I crank with my left hand when spinning, I thought...why not do that with a bait casting reel, so I got a left hand reel and don't regret it. It's all in what you get used to.

Maybe back when you were a kid left handed reels were hard to find but today they all have them readily available no excuse and remember Fishon Fishon!!!!
