The whole world has warnings we don't talk about Mercury DDT all that stuff that's been around a long time that are forever chemicals now adding pfos. It is everywhere it is in everything the warnings where I live say no more than four meals a month from the water I fish. Where I was fishing there are signs up due to very heavy levels don't eat fish and shower after contact with the water. I'm not going to eat from there any longer. No way to know how long the poison was in the water before they shut done fishing.

4 to 10 inches mostly 5-6 clear some places the water was a couple inches thick on top of the ice. My sled was floating on water at times temp in upper thirties with rain. Wish it had been colder.

One of my greatest pleasures fishing is teaching someone and having them be successful. Last week I took a friend ice fishing Houghton lake Michigan. I had only fished this lake twice before. We had 3 days of fishing. First day we went fishing how I wanted to fish to introduce him to it. We caught perch mostly small ones didn't keep any but he wanted Pike he had set tip ups but no luck on those. Second day no better luck. We hired a guide for our third day. I wanted to give him the best chance at his species of choice. We didn't finish setting the tip ups and they were already going off. I sat in my chair jigging for whatever wants my teardrop I am hoping for perch, gills or crappie but I will fight any fish willing to bite. I use 4 pound test so a good Pike would be a challenge. My buddy caught a large bucket mouth slab crappie nice Pike and had the time of his life I enjoyed watching his success that trip. He definitely out fished his teacher. In the end he wanted to keep the Pike I kept crappie and perch I got the better deal. I have pictures but have trouble posting I will try

I don't know how far you plan on traveling, Houghton lake is only a couple hours north has too many Pike and walleye perch and other species as well. Contact Lyman's bait shop for the lowdown of dates and they are honest in all aspects. There are several accomodations. I stay at the Super 8, it is a not overpriced and clean

Did you get a useable understanding of Houghton lake area. Anything worth sharing if from elsewhere. Did you find a good way to find local condition?

I wonder if the same ability to act helps in setting hooks. I can be right next to someone and I am landing fish and they are having bait stolen. Sometimes the person next to me is catching and I'm being bait robbed . Just a thought. One with surroundings. Merry Christmas

I have always acted first then later realized I could have got hurt/dead. I don't know why but I think quick on my feet in emergencies. Then I think back what happened and don't remember

I understand. I haven't gone through but I did step on a skim over fishing hole my leg went in up to my thigh. Busted up my knee. A couple years ago a group of teenagers were walking across the ice a straggler mosing along fell through. His friends didn't hear his yells,I laid out reached him with a fishing pole and pulled him out. He didn't even thank me for risking my life. . He was soaking wet and cold. I did my best. I was going to ask him if he needed my heated shanty but he ran off to catch up with his friends
