You are right Bucky. I have caught and eaten both Thresher and Mako and they are very good. Never caught or ate a great white, don't think I want to anymore.

Leopard and sand shark taste good. Caught Blue shark but never eaten.

I have never tasted what we called jack smelt around Monterey. I tried to clean them a few times, but they worms were so thick that they kept dragging the filets off the cleaning table and running away with them.

Have caught and bought Jack smelt. Tastes good if you roll them in flour and fry them. If they are small size then you can leave the bones on them and eat the whole thing crispy.

Nice fish Saw. Does the Napa river meet up at Mare Island? I've been fishing near the 37 where the sturgeon like to hang out. See them jumping all the time.

I had both and prefer the 4 piece over telescopic. I have to escort my wife often to garage sales and there are always a lot of telescopic rods for $1 for sale but are poor quality. Never seen a 4 piece for sale. Might tell you something either they are less of them or they don't want to let them go?

I believe you may have that
confused with the series 'Branded' (with Chuck Connors), where he played a soldier who was wrongly accused of cowardice in battle
and was court-martialed and drummed out of the Army in
disgrace, taking the rap for his commanding officer !

Steve McQueen played a bounty hunter in 'Wanted - Dead or Alive' !
If you're thinking military, there was also 'The Rebel' with Nick Adams as Johnny Yuma, a former Confederate soldier roaming the country shortly after the war !

The parody version of the song 'Branded' as I learned it in grade school -

Stranded on the toilet bowl !
What do you when you're stranded
And you don't have a roll ?

To prove you're a man
You must wipe it

Wow...nice poem Big.

I like Nick Adams...he was in Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean.

Not western but I sure liked Get Smart with Agent 99 mostly and Man from U.N.C.L.E. but that was probably in the 60's?

I think Branded was with Chuck Connors After his Rifleman series . I used to like the Daniel Boone show with Fess Parker.

We have seen similar posts several times. After looking at the responses, the primary factor is how the fish is treated before preparation along with how it is prepared. The next factor is what kind of fish you are able to get. Finally what quality of water it comes out of. As far as actual taste, the two main factors seem to be oiliness and water quality. A lot of people clearly don't like oily fish. So far, I have not found a carp that was prepared properly but I am still open. Lets face it. Two fish of the same species can be outstanding or impalitable.

The Big Valley, although it had a devoted following, was never a big ratings hit and only lasted four seasons !

Laramie also suffered in the ratings
race and only went four seasons ! It went to color in it's second season, but too many changes made many people lose interest - Jonesy (Hoagy Carmichael) left after the second season, as did Andy (Bobby
Crawford), Slim's younger brother ! Incidentally, Bobby was the younger brother of Johnny Crawford from
'The Rifleman' !

Bonanza ! was THE big hit in TV westerns - it went from a modest
17th place in its' first season, to
2nd place in the second, was #1 for the next three seasons, then stayed
in the top five for nine seasons, and was on for 14 seasons, total !

(I still watch Laramie,
occasionally !)

Thanks for checking. Did you ever see Broken Arrow?

After about five minutes the old man lets another one go and says, 'Aha. I'm ahead 14 to 7.'

Not to be outdone the wife rips out another one and says, 'Touchdown, tie score.'

Five seconds go by and she lets out a little squeaker and says, 'Field goal, I lead 17 to 14.' Now the pressure is on for the old man.

He refuses to get beaten by a woman, so he strains real hard.

Since defeat is totally unacceptable, he gives it everything he's got, and accidentally poops in the bed.

The wife says, 'What the hell was that?'

Where is the best spot on the shore to fish

Armando, I used to fish that lake only with a boat as all the spots that I saw were not easily accessible by foot and for shore fishing. Across the launch ramp to other side of the boat to the right was bass country and to the left I caught trout all the way up to the dam. Good trolling lanes there.

On the side of the lake along the launch ramp was good big catfish areas.

Ok, that’s cool heard of them never seen one

Smashers can punch at same velocity as a gunshot from a .22 caliber rifle.
Smasher mantis shrimp have two raptorial appendages (called ‘dactyl clubs’) on the front of its body that it uses to punch its prey. These fists are spring loaded, able to accelerate from their body at over 50 mph, delivering a force of over 1,500 newtons, enough to smash through crabs and clam shells. That’s 2.5k times the force of the shrimps own weight, if a human could do that they’d be able to punch through steel.
Their punch is so fast it results in ‘cavitation’ bubbles. This is a super heated bubble and small flash of light, which for split seconds also generates temperates of 4,400c (which is nearly as hot as the sun) in the surrounding water.
