Mt. Washington recently got ten inches of snow, but that wasn't a problem - what was a problem was the snow drifts ! Workers had to dig their way out of the building to get around outside, and seemingly had their work cut out for them, as some drifts actually towered over their heads !

Second photo is view looking
north shortly after the snowfall !

Better them than me.

if you weren't fishing for salmon and didn't keep any salmon you don't need a salmon card on you. As far as having the wrong set up I suspect it was selective fishery which would of meant single barbless hook artificial only but if the water was closed any gear would have been wrong so not sure if that would be considered a separate chargeable offence or not. But by all means you can show up and challenge it and in Washington state they very well may reduce the charge, but all that being said you got off easy I had a friend who was fishing a river that was open but was fishing at the mouth of a stream flowing into it that was closed for another 15 days (and he didn't know) and he got finned for $1500 for fishing in closed water even though he was just fishing at the mouth of it but apparently was past the convergent point. Another person in the small town I live in who wasn't a fisherman decided to take his son fishing in a local river bought him a snoopy pole and some worms and took him to the river to fish (just the 6 year old boy he wasn't fishing) a game official came by asked how things were going and fined him $1000 for using bait in a selective fishing only river. lesson to be learned you have to always carry a copy of the regs know where you are fishing and now the rules for that water and even then you should check the WDFW web site for any rule updates during the season, and just for good measure it wouldn't help to have a law degree so you can make heads or tails out of the complexity of the rules. Long gone are the days where you could just walk up to the water and fish it even during "fishing season" good luck by the way what river were you fishing?

The way some states are going, you gotta take your lawyer with you when you go fishing.

It seems like they are pretty scattered and isolated in specific areas, rather than literally everywhere like rock bass, bluegill, catfish and carp. Do they just produce less offspring than other fish or are there a lot more of them than I realize and only a select few hit my line? I realize they are ambush predators but I almost never see them.

Smallmouth in the Great Lakes are having their nests raided by the Gobies. The fish are larger but the recuitment is way down, and there are fewer smaller fish.

I've heard a lot of mixed things about using corn, can anyone give insight?

Works pretty good for Squirrels and Deer. Not so sure about fish.

Headed up to Burt Lake next week (end of August). I will be fishing from a boat. Not asking for your specific spots, but any guidance is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Burt is a good sized lake. I'd invest in a topo map was I you.

My dad grew up in Yugoslavia. Growing up there he caught pike and carp. Carp was considered a good food. When you don't have money you eat what you can get. I bet catching a carp is a blast. Pike an invasive species out west? Here it is a great gamefish and tastes good. Yes carp is an invasive species but don't knock people that want to catch them and eat them. Everyone has different tastes.

Carp is fine eating IF you know how to prepare it right. When I lived in Cleveland Ohio, I had an older Polish lady living next door. For some reason, she took a liking to me. One day she brought over some fish she had prepared. It was some of the best fish I'd ever eaten, and I was amazed when she informed me that it was...... wait for it........ Carp!

Hey everyone, I’m wondering why my fishing rod is stopping mid cast, and sometimes won’t cast at all. I’m using a zebco33 and only used 4 or 5 times before this happened to me.

I've used Zebco 33 reels for "Perch Jerkin", and Bobber Fishing for Blue Gills since I was 7 years old. I'm 73, so if I remember my grade school math, that adds up to 66 years. During that time I sometimes had the same symptoms that you describe, on some of my 33s. I found that the cause, at least for me, was the pins sometimes missed picking up the line when it was slack causing the line to wrap on it's self in the spool. Very similar to a back lash on a bait caster. Also at times allowing the line to get wrapped up under the spool. You might try keeping some tension on the line as you start reeling the line back in. That solved the trouble I was having, and it is now an unconscious action on my part. Give it a try, it worked for me. Good luck, and tight lines. (No pun intended.)

Please forgive the ignorance of this question, but for small ponds, can you "chum" the water with something like flake fish food to stir up activity with bass? I see some pop up every so often, so I figured that maybe some fish food may help get their interest and appetites going.

What are your opinions?

No such thing as a stupid question. However check your local (State) regs. In some places it might not be legal. Never done it so don't know how effective it would be even if it is legal.

Hello fellow fishing people. I am looking for good, reliable used bait casters. I need 2. I would prefer them to be $30 or less as I am on disability and have a tight budget. I live in Knoxville, TN. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. God bless and keep rippin’ lips everybody! JB

Check out E-Bay. I once got 5 Abu Garcia 5000 for $65.00. Of the 5 only 1 needed more work on it than just a good cleaning and lube. (Drag was frozen.) Easy fix actually. Now this is not a typical outcome, but keep checking until you find what you're looking for at your price range.

I don't know the answer, but I expect it is the same reason some could live in a mall rather than ever go outside, or some who enjoy the gift shop rather than the beauty of a national park. Then there are some who get more excited by seeing a new car go by than seeing a deer standing roadside. Why do some people prefer to enjoy some of the best fishing lakes in the country by buzzing around at dangerous speeds on a jet ski. More and more these days, folk even enjoy a good video fishing game over a day fishing. What can I say?

I have always thought that Water Skiing, and now Jet Boats are a Communist Plot to mess up a good fishing trip!

As a life-longer fisherman this question is always on my mind.

A lot of anglers like to say ''it's an escape from modern life, it's peaceful and relaxing'' which is true, but let's be real, most anglers start out as kids, and this sort of stuff isn't on our minds when we are 10 years old.

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated with fishing, I can't walk by water without taking a few minutes to scout out some fish in the margins.

The majority of people just don't see the appeal, we've all taken a friend fishing who just didn't enjoy it...

Why do you think some people are so drawn to fishing?

Been fishing for 65 years, but when my heart stops skipping a beat when a fish hits a lure, I'll quit. Besides that nothing beats fresh fish right out of the water!

Uncle Leo, Depends what brand Reel you're using, I think. Have used braid on a larger Zebco without a slippage problem.
