Fishing a bass tourney on lake Seminole with a Carolina rig plastic, after a bump and hook set this very large black crappie appeared. With no means to weigh the fish was placed on a 36qt cooler to measure. It hung over both ends about inch and a half, almost as wide as the top,and 2”thick. What did this fish weigh?

Can't say but the IGFA world record black crappie is 5 pounds.

What is the name of this fly

It's a Royal Coachman dry fly. When I took up fly tying and fly fishing for trout at 17 y.o. I must have tied a dozen or more of these in the pre-season because I thought they were stunningly beautiful and I couldn't imagine how a trout could possibly resist one. That season I caught exactly no trout on a Royal Coachman, try as I might. It's called an attractor pattern because it's all pretty and colorful and resembles nothing in nature. It sure attracted me! Trout? Not so much. There's a lesson to be learned in there somewhere.

I'm in North West Florida and have really wanted to get into freshwater fishing. I have a nice pond that I fish in where the water is fairly clear and gets deep out near the middle, with a good bit of vegetation and cover near the shore. My issue is that I'm not catching anything. At any time I can see 3-4 good sized bass in the water not even 10 feet away but they refuse to bite. I've been using crank baits, worms, and small swimming shads colored like bluegill, and I have had no luck over 3 days. Is now not a good time for bass fishing, or am I just not doing something right? I have 10 lb mono on a spinning rod and feel at least like I'm working the lures in at the right speed and technique. But bass just refuse to chase my lures, or show them much interest at all.

If you can see the fish then the fish can see you. Try a low, stealthy approach to avoid spooking them.

Starting this in chit-chat cause you never know where these things go.

What do you think is the best fighting fresh water fish in the U.S.?

For sheer endurance, I nominate the channel catfish. They never seem to run out of gas. But they're kinda like trying to pull in an anchor. I've never caught a flathead or a blue, so can't say about those.

For just a brief moment, rainbow trout fight as well as any other, but they are not very robust (putting it mildly). They tucker out pretty quickly.

For a combination of the two, I'm saying small mouth bass. They can put on quite a display, and for a good long while.

Anybody?

I've always thought the bluegill was the most ferocious freshwater fish. If they could get above 10 pounds, you'd never be able to land one and they'd probably attack your boat, follow you home and play hell with your pit bull.

Hey folks got a question. Does the atmospheric pressure affect casting distance?

Some days with no wind 40 - 50 feet is it. Other days with no wind and sometimes when the temp changes 60 - 90 feet is the norm.

Thoughts please.

According to this site:

https://www.exploratorium.edu/baseball/features/how-far-can-you-hit-one.html

The difference between the flight of a baseball over 400 feet is about +19 feet with a -10% change in air density (hot and humid) and -18 feet with a +10% change in air density (cold and dry). That works out to about a 5% difference in distance traveled for each case. Adding 5% to a 50 foot cast is 2.5 feet, so there's a difference but not much. If your casts are 40-50 feet on some days and 60-90 feet on others, then it's not due to air pressure. It's probably just you.

Amazing,!!!!! Couple weeks ago the government said not to wear a mask it won't help from getting it or from spreading it. NOW it's a game changer ??? Ya ever feel like you've been lied to again and again.lol

This whole mask SNAFU hasn't made sense from Day 1, whenever that was. We were expected to believe that masks were ineffective unless you were a health worker. I'm pretty sure the Creator didn't make health workers any different than other folks. If they just wanted to save the masks for the health workers they should have told us that instead of this BS about masks not being effective. I've been listening to the President's daily press briefings and to the briefings by my governor and a couple of others. The governors have been straightforward and factual and they've concentrated on the effects to the people in their states, including little obituary-type reports with a human angle. Very impressive, Governors! I wish I could say the same for the President but his are mostly self-praise, boasting, blaming and insulting the members of the press. The less said about his briefings, the better. Sorry, but I just expected much, much more from a President of the United States and I'm extremely disappointed in his performance during this terrible crisis in our country. I had hoped that he would grow into the job. He hasn't.
I was also impressed with Maryland GOP Governor Larry Hogan and with his Korean-born wife, Yumi, who helped Maryland to acquire 500,000 testing kits from South Korea when the Feds told them to get their own kits. So they did and now some seeds of warmth and friendship have been sown between at least one of the United States and a necessary foreign ally and friend. Good job, Governor and Mrs. Hogan! Maybe the Federal government will learn something constructive from your actions. But I doubt it.
Back to the masks, everyone in my syate is supposed to wear one when they visit any stores which brings up a question I don't know the answer to. If everyone is supposed to wear a mask and if retail store clerks are supposed to ask everyone for a "government issued picture ID" before selling them booze or tobacco, how are those clerks supposed to tell if the person showing the ID is the same as the person on the ID? Just another of life's little mysteries in the age of COVFEFE-19.

As of monday Harris county Texas 3rd largest county in US is going under mandatory mask when out in public. Been wearing one for weeks already as have a lot of others so no big deal for the smarter people. One thousand dollar fine if caught without. I think it should have been done weeks ago. JUST SAYING!!!
A Harris county judge issued the rule but governor could stop it, hope he don't

Wow. A county judge decides what people can and can't do in Texas and also how much the fine is.
I wonder what rules you could make if you were the dog catcher in that state. Gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.

That's not really a choice; everyone is going to pick the good-looking car if they're both in the same price range. How about a car that looks like garbage but runs well or a beautiful car that runs like garbage, in the same price range? In other words, do you prefer form over function or vice-versa?

I have a 31" walleye mounted in a case in the family room downstairs under the wall-mounted TV. It had to be over 30" in my book to be a mount. When I brought it home, I said to the Queen, "I have a fish for the wall" and she said, "Not my wall you don't", so, the case. It cost the same to mount the fish as it did to build the case in which to put it in, A $1000.00, not counting the trip to Canada to catch it. It's well worth it though.

Spirit, I have heard the very mature walleyes do not produce as many eggs as the smaller 20" walleye do. Thus, the reason for the slot limit. The slot limit varies a great deal from body of water to body of water. In some bodies of water, you have to be a lawyer to figure out what fish you may or may not keep.

That's pretty much the result when the scientists do the research and the politicians hire lawyers to write the law. Sometimes they even look at the research results, but not very often. By the time the law gets signed by the Governor, it's not about the fish anymore anyway.

Try water with fish in it. That's the best answer since you might be in outer Mongolia from all the info you've given us. At least narrow it down to the continent you live in.

I found another answer - amazon sells 100 yard spools of suffix braid. I've never used it, but I hear it's pretty good stuff. I ordered 1. Still, any ideas on how to do it with a 150 yard spool?

Cut off 50 yards, use the rest. Should only take half the time.
Or not

Not expensive enough. Should also taken away their license for a period of years too.

"The men, who were not identified, face a penalty of $100 per fish, or potentially $12,800 for each angler, authorities said. Officials say the men were additionally charged with unsafe operation of a vessel, operating a power vessel without valid registration, and failing to have appropriate vessel safety gear."

I'm pretty sure taking away their fishing licenses won't be much of a deterrent for these two losers. They'd probably see it as a way to save money.
