I went out for a couple of hours yesterday on main lake. Didn't even get a bite. Was using shrimp and pieces of chicken breast. Was trying out new bait-caster, and I really messed up. Pushed on that button and line got all tangled & messed up. Now I'll have to take that out and start over. I pushed down on the button and didn't get it fast enough on the reel line and that's how it tangled. Guess I forgot how I ever used a bait caster. The new ones are different from the ones 50 yrs. ago. I really need to figure this new one out. I'm glad no one was around to see how stupid I was.

Not stupid, just ignorant, but you learned! Keep working with it and soon it will not be a fight but a habit, IE muscle skill.

Haha. I used a bait caster once and did the same thing. I threw it back in my fishing tackle. I use spinning rod only. We only use Abu Garcia. In my opinion it is the best.
Good luck and send pics.

Maybe you should try bicycling . It’s probably a better fit for you.

Me too. Hint: Only put a little line on the spool while you practice. I used an old crank bait without the hooks to practice.

Had similar when I was in my late teens. Went to an ocean area and tried casting. First cast had incredible birdsnest. Sat on the beach for over an hour untangling it. Finally got it done then cast again, same damn thing. Cleared it a second time then went and sat by a rock pool and just lowered the line down. Put that reel away for several years then just used it as a trolling reel. No casting.

Awww cubs, don’t discourage her. At least she’s out there trying. And asking for advice. I can’t give her any cause I don’t use a bait caster. All I can say is keep practicing and you’ll get it eventually or not. If not then go back to spinning gear and keep on keeping on.

Was trying out new bait-caster, and I really messed up. Pushed on that button and line got all tangled & messed up.

No big deal it happens to everyone. On the side of your reel there's a knob that controls the break. Tighten the brake down a lot. Then with your lure on the line push your release button down the lure will just hang there, slowly start loosening the break knob till your lure slowly starts to fall to the ground. I would then tighten it just one turn till you get used to casting. As you improve you'll be able to loosen the brake to get further cast.
Hope this helps a little..

Do what Gary said. In time you will get better at it. I adjust mine Everytime I change a lure. Takes a couple seconds. I hold the rod tip about 3 feet off the ground. Press the casting button n let go. Loosen the spool tension nob until it drops. I let mine hit the floor and the spool turns about 2 or 3 times just loosens the line a little. And ready to cast. Until you get good put a dental pick in your pocket to pull out the nest. Cuz your Gunna need it.lol. good luck Ms.

What's the difference in Stupid and Ignorant? They sound about the same to me.

I don't think I should try bicycling (do have one with a flat tire)
I've always been clumsy, but more so now that I'm old.

You must be kidding. What's basket-weaving. It really sounds boring.
