Fishing a bass tourney on lake Seminole with a Carolina rig plastic, after a bump and hook set this very large black crappie appeared. With no means to weigh the fish was placed on a 36qt cooler to measure. It hung over both ends about inch and a half, almost as wide as the top,and 2”thick. What did this fish weigh?
What ever you want it to weigh.
I am curious as to a guestament.
Did u get a picture of it.??? We wanna see it.🤗
My guess is at least 7lb & 6 oz's. to 8 lbs.
But no catfish? Must not have any in NY. I just bought a new Boga Grip fish scale because I was wanted to know for sure what my channel cats weighed. I was thinking 27" =10 lbs. There are so many fish scales on the market now. And not many of them don't have a lot of negative reviews: not accurate, quit working etc. The Boga's only negative was price. They are twice the cost of others. But I got mine free with Amazon dollars.

Can't say but the IGFA world record black crappie is 5 pounds.
Now THAT'S a fish story.....my 32qt cooler is 22.5" x12.5".... that makes your fish about 25" long, with a girth of no less than 18" ! My Steelhead (obviously a differently shaped fish) chart says a fish that size is approximately 13.4lbs ! Am definitely questioning your ID on that fish....sounds like a strange fish that is only 2" thick, but two feet+ long and with 10"+ top to bottom height...... thinking drum, buffalo, or carp, rather.
If not... you definitely missed a chance at Angling fame, for sure, and should have had it mounted....kinda doubt you have caught ANY BASS, that have those specs, have ya' ?
The chart referenced above fails to take in to consideration GIRTH, so is rather inaccurate, for ANY species, imo. (Take note that the chart goes no further than 25"long for bass.... there's sound reasoning for that... existence !)
But a good fish "tale", nonetheless, keep'em coming, we need entertainment.
Sorry, but I have fished for Crappie many, many years and there has never been one with those dimensions. You could have measured him and weighed him back at one of the landings on Lake Seminole. I can't even imagine a Crappie that size. Maybe you caught a Hybrid bass or fresh water flounder. That sounds much like the 26 pound bass a friend of mine refused to mount because he was cockeyed.
