Greetings CK. The lakes in Lacey
are so congested I’ve stayed clear in the summer except for Hicks a couple of times. I lived in west Olympia and fish Summit and Spenser Lakes up north.
I’m wondering if you’ve had luck
crappie fishing Black lake in Thurston county?
Tight lines,
Monday
Small bills or a personal check?
No one remembers the shoe store Xray machine? Put your foot in, push the button and watch while you wiggle your foot bones. Yes sir, children loved to play with it.
I’ve seen the Snake River frozen shore to shore at Wawawie. Last ship’s wake heading to Lewiston etched. And then arrived a car load of marry WSU students. One sport decided to carry a 10 pound rock about 200 feet out onto the ice.
He gleefully tried to smash it in between his feet. If he was successful the current could pull the idiot under. I don’t know if the gene pool suddenly became shallower- I left shaking my head.
Closer to Colfax and Pullman. Nice paved road all the way to Lewiston, Idaho. Great boat launch spots along the way and overnight pull-outs. I miss the summer small mouth bass fishing.
Oh Gawd yes! I was 18 and worked at a paper mill. The machines were a continuous roar, so loud the floor shook. No man worth his salt would wear sissy hearing protection. So we went home after 8 hour shift with bells ringing in our ears.
If you want something that does more than just increase volume, you’re gonna pay for it. Mine costs an average of $1,000 a year for the privilege of retaining a small amount of hearing loss I caused by my own stupidity and lack of knowledge.
The bark is processed into a laxative. The berries are even more potent although the birds love them with no apparent side effects.

Cascara is my first favorite tree because as a kid I used to peel it to make money. My second is Pacific yew because it is one of the woods American Indians used for Bows and America used the bark for a cancer med.
Chittum bark is what we called it. Beautiful tree that produces purple fruit, but don’t eat them or you’ll be spending time on the pot- it’s a powerful laxative. My brother and I spent many a summer day peeling and sun curing the bark before hauling the sacks to the feed store to get weighed and paid. If we got 25 cents a pound it was a good day.
I remember one unfortunate lad that proudly brought in 3 or 4 sacks- he must of had 100 pounds or so.
Fella had to tell him it was worthless alder bark he had peeled. Some wise guys would occasionally try to sneak in rocks but most got caught in the act.
The money we made usually went to buy shells for our .22 rifle. Good times.
My mom always said to us kids,
“You can get happy in the same pants you got unhappy in!”
My financial planner said the best advice he had to give when you’ve reached retirement is just one thing:
Stay off ladders!
There’s plenty lakes available for trout fishing during our winter. Game department makes a big deal of stocking lakes just before Thanksgiving. You need a boat on most lakes. Shore access is often limited and fishing next to boat ramps is seldom productive.

It’s tire chain for your boat trailer. Look around there should be two of them.
Did you look for the rope attached to the springs? There’s more than one type of fishing.
