You need to learn at least one knot but not all of them. Ask him to show you one you don't know it will be a good way to judge his patience and temperament. If he's a keeper for you it will show. If he's not a keeper that too will start to show.

I’d fish those drop offs bass are likely going down deeper this time of the year to avoid the heat. especially as it gets hotter during the day fish off of ledges and drop offs. Maybe Carolina rig the points if you have the gear for that.
I agree with fsdigest go deep on those drop offs and work your way back up until you find the depth they are holding at.

Are you fishing from a boat or off land? If your in a boat find a bridge that has thirty or so feet of water and fish live eels around the pilons at first light. Or set up with an anchor and fish the outgoing tide, stage upstream from the bridge and let the tide take it to them. Adjust your weight accordingly to the tide to get bait down where the fish are. I use an inline cigar weight and about two feet of floracarbon leader tied to twenty lb braid.

I like the quiet and scenery but also playing the fish in is a bonus, not to mention the great meal.

Eat well before you go your better off with food on your stomach. And I agree with fsdigest if you are prone to sickness take it before bed the night before so it's in your system. Don't try to stand rigid on the boat let your legs act as shock absorbers and your head won't bobble around so much, that's what gets you sick.

That's a neat set up is it as stable as it looks? And how well does it turn with that trolling motor on the back?

Shell crackers are sunfish just like Bream . They are called shell crackers because the eat fresh water mussels. The extra worms are not really needed, they are just making the bait look fatter in hopes of bigger fish.

I like my creek boat. 12.5 ft molded plastic seats two has livewell and 55lb trolling motor steered with feet to keep hands free for fishing. It's light enough to put in bed of truck , but I trailer it for ease of loading and unloading.

Trick to backing is go slow and put one hand on bottom of steering wheel push that hand in the direction you want the trailer to go.

I just moved to Johnston Co in 2017 but I have been on the road working away from home the past two years so I don't know many people from Johnston.

Do take pictures of their numbers and report them. There are laws in NC about interference with sportsmen.
