As I was rereading my little post I thought back to one of my trips to Indian River with My late cousin Capt. Thurman Greene of Vero Beach. He had told me to cast to some rocks extending out from a man made island. My lure landed right where he had pointed me to, and the fish took it almost before it landed. A monster Snook summer salted out of the water and landed on the far side of the rocks and took of taking drag quick. I let my finger ride on the spool to try to slow him a little until Thurman could get the boat going to give chase, I still had plenty of line on the spool, but before he got the boat going there was a hard jerk and loud pop. The fish was off. The line on the spool had broken at the knot where the had been spliced onto a heaver backing line that had somehow gotten unde some of that backing line and couldn't come off the spool correctly. We were fishing for Speckled Trout and would have been okay with any of them. After that I have never spliced enough line on so that it would be wound onto the spool. Salt water fishing you never Know for sure what your next bite will be. Be ready!!

You can't cast the swivel through the tip top with eventially taking the insert out.

Or at the very least scoring the insert so that it will fray your line till it breaks. If you use a swivel us one rated much heaver than your line and snaps will cause heart ache when it straightens out with that fish of a lifetime. For me it is much better to go line to leader.

When I was at Eglin AFB in Florida, after basic they sent me right back home, I was keeping two pet snakes in the barracks. One was about 4 1/2' Eastern rattler and the other was a Cotton mouth of about 2 1/2'. Then my room mate wanted to know what that buzzing noise coming from my locker was. He reported it to the First Sargent, and I had to get rid of, release, them. I got a new room mate out of that deal. Tommy was a real city boy

If you want a snake skin on your saddle or any thing leather that won't be flexing skin a fresh snake and put it flesh side to leather and trim to fit leave to dry. My wife and I had hides that stayed on our saddles for over 20 years, no glue required. All this snake talk makes me hungry.

Florida, and west Virginia made a deal years ago to trade Florida Diamond backs for some West Virginia Turkeys. Can you guess who got the best of that trade, Although I'd rather eat Rattler than Turkey

The only reasons I can see for that type of real is less moving parts and in really large fish on less thing to break. as far as distance the spinning real probably has the advantage there. I don't know but the reel without level wind would have an advantage at trolling for marlin ad such. The spinning real's spool goes in and out to make the line wind on it levelly, Stay with the spinning outfit for surf fishing. The bait casting reals are easier to spool than a spinning reel. Put a pencil through the spool of line and have some one hold it for you while you load the spool on your

Some of you fellers know that besides being a real fisherman, Fly Guy, and the other Guy Brothers Bly, and Sly are or where coon hunters too. I just a little while got a message from Fly, he and Bly were out early this morning treeing coon and had caught their dogs up and started to the truck.

Fly said the sun was coming up and they were at the north west end of a big pasture when they cleared the woods and it was suddenly much warmer there. All of s sudden the biggest rattler either one of them had ever seen came after them. That ole snake was gaining on them quick, so they split up so they might confuse the snake and get away.

Fly said that the snake was so full of poison that when he would open his mouth it would squirt two streams of it about ten feet out of his fangs.

The snake only glanced at Fly when the separated and seemed to know that Fly was the fastest of the two of them, and took out after Bly. Fly said the snake was striking at Bly's heels by the time he got to the fence.

Bly jumped the fence and made it over just a head of the snake who got hung up in that fence. That gave Bly time to get to a young live oak tree and skinny up it. The snake was right behind him though. But thank God Rattlers don't climb trees like other snakes.

Fly was very relieved That Bly had made it up the tree, but the snake was angry and started to bite the tree over and over again. After awhile Bly started to moan and grown. After awhile the leafs started to fall of the tree and Bly had started to cry out in pain. The snake left then, and Fly went to help Bly.

When Fly got to him Bly fell from the tree, DEAD, The poison had run up the tree in it's sap and got into the scratches Bly had gotten climbing the tree. RIP Bly

6# is smaller and harder for the fish to see, same for mono, as opposed to braided line. In very clear water I like 4# mono, It's hard to find any thing smaller than 6# close to me. I found two boxes of 4# and when I started to put it on my reel one of the boxes had 8# line in it
