I am new to fishing for Crappie. Why is 6 pound test line recommended over 10 pound test and why is mono recommended?

Crappie are line shy and they don't spook as bad on the smaller line. Just make sure your drag is adjusted properly and have a blast with light tackle.

6# is smaller and harder for the fish to see, same for mono, as opposed to braided line. In very clear water I like 4# mono, It's hard to find any thing smaller than 6# close to me. I found two boxes of 4# and when I started to put it on my reel one of the boxes had 8# line in it

Split the load start with 8 and 1/2 through tie on 4 filler up.

I don’t use any thing heavier than 4lb test and I like fluorocarbon over mono as it is more dense thus it will sink faster
Also stronger, more abrasion resistant
I found that 4lb test actually has a knot break tensile strength of just shy of 6lbs
I’ll be using 3lb test this coming spring!

I use 4lb Fireline with a mono or fluoro leader. You can really feel what’s happening on the receiving end.
