I have been fishing most of my life. Here recently with in the last few years I have been doing it a lot more. Especially for Bass, But I never learned about different types of baits or if live bait is better than Jigs and Lures. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Also would love to know different types of jigs, cranks and lures people use.

BankStalker.. unusually fish with more than one reel with me. Sometimes I only use one at a time but I bring a few with me just in case. But I think I am going to pass on buying the tech reel and just stick with the old school method of cast and see what bites. Although I am looking for a good rod and reel so if you have any suggestions I am all ears. If it helps I live in Ohio and usually fish ponds and resivoirs but I would like to venture out in to Lakes and even Lake Erie so as I said any suggestions would be helpful.

I hear ya brother. I am trying to teach my 13 year old son that where yes technology can be a good thing, there are certain things in life that you need to do to get away from it. Fishing for me is one. I will admit that even I sometimes spend to much time on my smart phone researching stuff for my job or looking at the sports scores( or cheerleaders). But I at least have hobbies that I don't want to much technology involved. Weather it's casting a line or building my car or truck. I would rather use hand tools for the vehicles or a good old fashioned spin caster and plain luck any day of the week. They tried that electronic fishing liscens here in Ohio as well but lucky for me I live in an old farm town who still believes in paper so I get to carry my liscens with me to the lake, river, or pond I am fishing at and leave the cell phone in my pocket. The only timey phone comes out when I am fishing is when I have my kids and they catch a nice one and I want to brag at work.

Oh, that millennial thought process never ceases to amaze me.
What on Earth is Bluetooth gonna do for you ? Reel in for you ? GPS your cast ? Play some bitchin' beats to "twitch" by ?
Tackle acquisitions and maintenance is plenty to deal with, ...now I gotta go get some batteries for my reel ?
I started about age 3 with a CANE pole, a Zebco 202 and pole from a generous Uncle Will, at age 7, spinning reel by high school. I don't have the patience (and I am known for my patience !) to "program & link" my fishing gear. That sounds worse than when my buddy wanted to "barcode label" pretty much every thing he owns,"so I can keep an inventory on my computer", he says. This from a guy that had his laptop stolen, then he managed to drop the new one off his balcony porch railing ! Karma is after that boy for depending on his latest e-toy !
I am guessing that you are going to be fiddling with that reel when you lose 'the big one', sorry.

No need to apologise. I completely understand what you mean by millennials thinking process.even though I am one I am 36 so I am not like today's millennials where everything is electronic. I was just thinking about investing in it but am perfectly happy with my Ugly stick and spin caster. But I also should take this time to thank you for your input and redirecting my focus on just going out and fishing. Not worrying about all the bells and whistles for the reel and just putting a line in the water and having fun. So thank you and good luck on the water.

I was thinking about investing in one of those new smart reel with the blue tooth settings and was just wondering if if any of you own one or have tried one so I can get some feedback on them.

I have been fishing my whole life. I am a very big fan of the ugly stick. I mostly fish at my parents pond that is stocked with blue gill, Large mouth Bass, and Catfish. I am looking to venture out and fish other spots in Ohio. Even Lake Erie. I want to venture out from the Ugly Stick as well and try other Rods, Reels and baits. Just wondering what people suggest. I am not affraid to spend some money. Looking at both shallow waters and Deep sea.
