I have been fishing my whole life. I am a very big fan of the ugly stick. I mostly fish at my parents pond that is stocked with blue gill, Large mouth Bass, and Catfish. I am looking to venture out and fish other spots in Ohio. Even Lake Erie. I want to venture out from the Ugly Stick as well and try other Rods, Reels and baits. Just wondering what people suggest. I am not affraid to spend some money. Looking at both shallow waters and Deep sea.

I have a Ugly stik for just about every thing or condition. I have had them for a long time.
I can't find anything broke. See no reason for fixing anything.

I'm an old guy that started surf fishing about 8 years ago. Started with the Ugly Stick (10' and 12') and Penn reels. Never any problems and tough as nails. Sitting out on Carolina Beach fishing all night is an incredible experience!

Ugly stick, great rods. I have upgraded myself to fenwick rods from their lowest priced rod to their highest priced rod. I love them. Aba Garcia probably makes what I think is the best reels. Many good brands out there, Shimono, Diowa and others.

Give Star rods a try! Not going to say compared to G.Loomis or St. Croix but close to without the price! Hear Shimano has some nice ones too and own many Penn, Diawa and Ugly sticks too! Kind of fond of Star Rods, offshore rods for years and last year bought two Star graphite spinning rods for snook and other big feisty fish! Caught just as many hogfish as buddys St. Croix $$$ and just as sensitive!

Well looks like I will stick with my Ugly stick... But I am also interested in knowing good bass lures or tricks to catch bigger bass. So if anyone has a good tip or lure in mind I mall ears

Nothing wrong with old ugly sticks, even have two casting rods for snapper by Shakespeare called Ugly Stick Tiger Rods! They fish right along with the most expensive rods and possibly stronger!
