Lake Wausau, Petenwell, Castle Rock, Arkdale Pond and Chain of Lakes by Waupaca.

Lots of good panfish lakes in that area. Waushara, Waupaca, Adams counties.

Looking for a good fishing spot in Central WI to fish pan fish

Try lake Napowon or round lake in Waushara county. Both great panfish and LM bass lakes. Your kids will have a great time. Lots of nice bluegill, perch, warmouth, sunfish and bass.

Common garter snake. Great pets. Feed mostly on insects and worms with an occasional frog.

North West Pa. Went fishing today. In the water along the shore was a dead tree with what looked like frog eggs the whole tree was cover with them. I thought frogs only laid eggs in the early spring. Or is this some type of fish egg?

Wood frog or salamander eggs would be my best guess. No picture?

Yup. I've said it before on here, you need a law degree AND a degree in ichthyology to fish legally in California. In some places. I wrote the head game warden in Humboldt County to see if I could fish on a certain stretch of coast up by Portola. He was nice enough to get back to me. I'm still not sure. Here's his reply to my enquiry:

I am the Game Warden that patrols the Petrolia area and I understand you have some questions regarding surf fishing along Mattole Road.

You should be aware of a couple things if you are planning on fishing in that area. First there is a marine protected area along the most northern stretch of Mattole Road along the beach. There is no fishing allowed in this protected area (South Cape Mendocino SMR). There is a sign posted along Mattole Road near Steamboat Rock that delineates the southern boundary of the protected area. Also there really aren’t any good shore fishing spots in the protected area anyway.

Secondly, some of the land along Mattole Road is private property.

The area around the rock feature called Devil’s Gate, just south of Steamboat Rock, is probably the most popular spot in the area for shore fishing. This area is rocky and when the ocean is calm you can catch a variety of bottom fish.

Clear to you?
Yup. I've said it before on here, you need a law ... (show quote)

Sure... You can fish anywhere except the places you can’t fish and you probably ain’t going to catch fish in those spots anyhow. The spots you can fish and maybe catch some bottom fish if you can elbo your way into the crowd of other guys trying to fish those few spots. Clear as mud...

You just about have to have an attorney read the California fishing regulations for you.
It's a byzantine mess!

When we went camping when I was a kid, I'd sit on the dock and fish for bluegill with worms while Dad went further up the river to find good spots for bass. We usually had bluegill for supper. I still like them!

Yup. Bluegill is one of the tastiest fish ever. Any good seasoned light coating, deep fried, a little tartar sauce, and a good potato salad and I guarantee you that every bit will get ate up

Question....if you are filleting (as in.. using a fillet knife)....why are you trying to cut rib bones ? Kinda defeating the purpose of the word "fillet" aren't you ?
And if you "fillet", and you still "need" to cut rib bones..... cleaver that thing, the "pretty part" is past.

No cleaver needed. Just slice the rib bones right off. Done. Boneless fillet. I can fillet a walleye or a snapper in about 45 seconds to a minute. The only one I do a little different is a northern pike. After I slice off the rib bones I zip out the Y bone section. Since there is a little meat left around the Y bones I pickle that piece. NO waste.

When I fillet most fish I cut straight through the rib bones, flip fillet over and remove the skin then slice off the rib bones. Works great for me.

A blue gill is not a rough fish. A bluegill is a panfish and one of the best eating fish you can get. Bluegills caught legally in Wisconsin can be used as bait for game fish like northern pike or bass.

Judging by the blood,it looks like they gaffed it. Unless that's from the Gig.

The blood is from the spear. When you throw the spear it has a handle on it but then the spear head releases from the handle and there is a heavy line attached to the spear. You then pull him up and out on your shanty floor. Then you can take him outside and celebrate.
Lake Winnebago is 10 miles wide and 30 miles long. Lotsa area that you can cover.

How the heck you guys get that big of a fish up throw the ice. Let alone gig it

The hole can be cut up to 48 square feet. You spend a lot of time looking down that hole hoping a sturgeon swims through it.
The record sturgeon speared on Lake Winnebago is 212 lbs. the one my nephew got in that picture was a little over 100 lbs.
