Just read a post about a Jitterbug. It made me start wondering: What were other peoples go to lures for bass in the 60's?
My tackle box always had a 1 jitterbug, 2 hula popper, 3 lazy Ike,4 mepps spinner,5 dare devil,6 jar of small pork frogs (no longer able to find), 7 and a pack of dark floating 7 inch rubber worms. A few of those lures I never used in California. I had them from Minnesota when I was just a pup rather than a dedicated fisherman in high school. I now have a large 14 box soft bag for salt and another for fresh water fishing as well as a stack of switch out Plano boxes in my cave. Surprisingly, I would still go with a plastic worm for bass if I could only choose one lure, only wacky style. Seven lure arsenal. today it would be. 1 Wacky worm in green pumpkin, 2 floating fat rebel black back silver , 3 ned rig 1/8 oz., 4 flicker shad in fire tiger, 5 seven inch floating purple worm, 6 frog, 7 chatter bait black worm. I am looking for comparisons for 7 original lures, only one lure and 7 lure modern box. Enjoy your entire year fishing in a one tray tackle box.

Back around 1964 I discovered you could catch bass on a rubber worm. Wow! The ones I used were called Fliptail worms. They were about 7" long and I only remember them being available in black and purple. I caught a lot of bass on those worms before discovering girls and the Marines discovering me. VBG! My "go to" lure today is a Texas-rigged 7½" Junebug worm. Still catching bass with them. Rapala minnows were available and good as well.
