Yeah, like I'd said earlier; the only way I've heard it spoken would be (get ready for the "Hooked On Phonics"): pOHgy... I've heard Coonasses, Cowboys & Conchs, Crackers &Tarheals all use the exact same word. Never really seen it in writing, before recently.

Yellow Perch is a first cousin of the Walleye. Both are some of the best fresh water eating you will ever find.
We roll the fillet in egg, then in flour. A little salt and pepper and you are ready for the frying pan.
Have had tremendous success this year with night crawlers especially during the summer. Might be time for minnows this time of year. Bottom feeders. Keep your bait close to the bottom.

Any small lure (with a half inch night crawler) can be used casting. 15 is the limit in South Dakota. Takes about that many for a good meal.

There’s no limit on perch on the lake I fish here in Idaho but some of them are pretty big. Only takes a couple to make a decent meal for 3 or 4 people.

We use little tube jigs and even smaller tungsten jig heads with about 1/4” of night crawler through the ice and just cast the jigs in the open water with ultra light rods. Drop to the bottom thought the ice and raise it about 2 inches and jig. In open water we cast out as far as we can, let it hit the bottom and slow retrieve jigging across the bottom.

The Wi state record perch is 3 lb 4 oz but we are always happy with the 10 - 12 inch fish. Our bag limit is 25.

There may be Perch that big in South Dakota. I've never seen one.
It doesn't get any better than that. I would be tempted to live in the ice shack for a month or two.
Are there really people who don't like to fish? Hard to believe. I'm absolutely hooked.
Great Pictures. Thanks

Sure. Cascade lake in Idaho is a hot spot for ice anglers from all over the country. The world record was caught there through the ice by a 15 year old young lady from Eagle Idaho a few years back. 15 plus inches and nearly 3 pounds. They judge them on weight not length. It was a nice fish.
Egghead even tried trolling on the bottom last year in a side by side after it fell through the ice. I don’t think he caught any that way though. 😬

Might have to get with you in March. We should have another great grandson being born in Coeur D’Alene in March and will head up for that.

Google “world record yellow perch”. Whoever caught that one needs to get it registered. That’s a nice perch. Maybe the record goes by length and girth. I’m not sure. The weight on the one the girl caught beat mine for world record but not for length. The biggest one caught, recorded, is 17” but only 2. 6 pounds.

My boys will be here for a week this winter to catch some. Come on out. Cascade Idaho. I can meet you out there. I tried it a few days ago and the algae was nasty. Didn’t catch a thing.

That thing would eat for a snack the ones I used to catch with my grandpa growing up in Indiana. We thought a 12 incher was a monster. Used to have community fish fries in the little burg where I lived so I've seen a lot of Indiana perch - never any anywhere near that size.
