I find the responses interesting. Is this one of those lures that sits in the box until the fishing just plain sucks? "Oh well, nothing else works so I will try this". When it doesn't work either, it gets thrown back into the box. I ask this, as I have personally unfairly given it that roll. I do not remember switching to it when the fishing was good, or starting my day with it. It is time for me to give it a fair chance as soon as I can get to some decent bass lakes. RTKF

bapabear you are probably right on the money. That's the drawback of having "More lures than Wal-Mart " as discussed in another thread. Approximately 60% of the stuff in my box has never caught a fish. And probably 30%has never been wet LOL.You see some of the pros on tv catching with them and say, gotta get me some of those! The problem is,they spend a week scouting a location to shoot an episode. We don't have the time to find perfect conditions for each type of presentation. Too weedy, too shallow, too deep, too windy, BUT we've got them if we need them.HaHaHa. When I finally retire, and have more time, I would like to try just concentrating on one type of lure. Spent an entire day only throwing a square bill, or a rattle trap, or a jig, and give each type a workout. Of course that means only bringing 1 rod with me. That would probably be the hardest part.

That is one of our 2 lures we always troll for stripers with. The big 1 oz. ones. Troll at 5 mph with 180 to 200 feet of line out.

They are Rattle Traps and have proven their ability to catch all types of freshwater bass, particularly during post spawn periods. Natural bait colors have worked best for me.

Love the thoughts in your last post Fredfish. Are we....spoiled, gullible, optimistic, scammed, hopeful, greedy........a bit of each maybe ??

And Saw... you troll @ 5mph ? Wow... that's easily twice the speed I have ever trolled, except for one time offshore, waaay faster than any freshwater folks do, around here. Is that river speed ? Maybe I should experiment ?

Rattle Traps Caught a lot of nice bass ripping them. Fished tournament at Clear Lake ripped on a shad color ripping it through the grass on a flat caught over 20lb's a day. Big fish in Clear Lake!

Yeah FF, we fish the Napa and Petaluma Rivers. Both rivers are kinda short and not real fast movin except on the out goin tide. Then it can get rippin pretty good.

Saw--Interesting, gonna have to try speeding up, next time I get over to the coastal rivers' mouths... not much chance of that inland, many reasons, mainly flow and BOULDERS ! LOL !
I take it, that striving for that speed, you are using a kicker or trolling plate on your main, rather than an electric motor, yes ?
BTW.. 5mph upstream ...or down, or strive for same speed either direction ?
Thanks.

We usually go bout 5 mph goin either way. However when you are goin against the current I think we should be goin a little slower so the lure can get a little deeper because it's workin harder. To me it makes sense but I haven't convinced my fishin partner and he owns the boat. I don't argue with the captain. Besides we usually catch plenty of fish when they're in the river. Just gotta find them first.

I'll try to take a pic of the lure we use but the ones I have are 3/4 not 1 oz. Couldn't find any 1 oz. ones.

Those are the 2 lures we like to use the most trollin. The lower one, they don't make any more so you haft to get them off e bay. They're jointed Rebel Fas Track lures made for a faster troll speed. Both lures work great for stripers.
