Thanks Mike, if you look at the scars on the bigger one,you can see she's been thru a lot. Our D.E.E.P. has a breeding program in the river that feeds this lake. They shock some big breeders, milk them and then raise the fry in pens up river. They distribute some here and exchange some with other states.
Hear in wv they are very few pike only a handful of lakes have them. I have only caught two In wv. I have caught some in Ohio. Now Canada is a different story we used to go for two weeks in the summer and a week in the fall. I’ve caught plenty of pike their.

Yeah we officially only have them in a few lakes here. But they have shown up in some where they are not supposed to be. Our state record was caught in one of the lakes in the Housatonic River system. A 29 pounder, caught in Lake Lillinonah in 1980. Last fall I had one up to the boat that was close to 4ft long on that lake. She popped the 8lb test fluorocarbon leader as I was reaching for the net.
Man it’s ashamed you couldn’t have got that one.

Yeah,I was shocked when I got her up to the boat. It was Thanksgiving weekend, the water was cold, and she was kinda sluggish. When I set the hook,I thought I snagged a log, until she started talking line.took about 10minutes to get her to the boat, and I'm thinking, she's not gonna fit in the net! She was just floating next to the boat, until I reached for the net. One quick kick of the tail and the leader popped! It was all frayed at the end, must have been rubbing on those teeth. It was an awesome fish.

Nice job Fred
Thanks OJ, Wasn't the day I wanted, but it was fun till the end. I'm gonna have to start telling jokes about 10,000 Weatherman, chained to a concrete block,at the bottom of the ocean!..... Sounds like a good start, to me.

Fisherman's Log 5/28/20 Forecast :Fog and scattered showers, 5-10 out of SW. Up at 7,misting,no fog. By the time I finished my coffee it's pouring. Wait 1.5hr to uncover boat. Get to lake at 10. Blowing 10-15. Made 2 passes up and down the 100 yard drop off throwing silver/blue holographic Rattle Trap. Not a sniff. Go around to lee side of Island, throw it some more, nothing. Head for rocky point. 7 Rock Bass, and 2 Pike, one 4.5lbs,one 2lbs. No sign of Smallmouth. Got all So far on a Powerbait General wacky rigged. Pull into cove to eat my sandwich, started raining harder. Worked lee side of Island again, with White and red Bleeding Buzz Bait. Got 1 Largemouth 1.8lbs. Went back around to drop off, wind blowing 20+. Made 1 pass with Rattle Trap, nothing. Called it a day.(Then spent 35minutes trying to get boat on trailer in whitecaps.) Final score 10 fish, not a bite on Rattle Trap today.

Hey Fred! Nice catch. Sounds like you utilized some of those less-used lures of yours and put the test to the RTs. I've never used them in fresh water, but they do a number on the Spanish Mackerel in the Gulf.

Thanks Barry, I wanted to spend more time, and try some other stuff, but again the weather would not cooperate. I can deal with fog, and showers but heavy wind sucks, and thunderstorms are out of the question. Let's see, graphite rod,wet hand, standing in a metal boat,in the water??? You couldn't design a better grounding system if you had an electrical engineering degree! I'll pass on that scenario.
Rattle trap is one of my few confidence baits. Was using freshwater until moving to Fl then did.not try it for several years because of size of hooks. Then one day I could not buy a strike and saw it laying in the tray and decided why not. Turned the whole day around. Use a lot for Spanish mackerel, jack crevals for the fight, lady fish for bait, caught snapper blues, and several unknown large hits that I believe the hooks were too small to get around bony lips for hook up. I think once again if you like a lure, you fish it better.
A rattle trap is a great early spring bass lure. I mostly use a red color, or a craw color with oranges, and red.
Does anyone have a pink one for Zoey to try?
We use this in the California Delta to take Stripers. Also crawdad color for Smallmouth Bass.
good spring bait,, rattletraps are works good in really stained or muddy waters its a search bait as well.A loud clacking noisy bait for bass to hone on. hope this helps you; have a few gold, silver, perch, or chartreuse, should cover all conditions now sizes that's another matter
