I don’t bother them and so far they have done the same for me. I try not to kill them even when we’re baling hay we try to avoid each other. I have seen my share of rattle snakes in the fields from the safety of a tractor. I stop let them get out of the row of hay then I’ll continue on. I just don’t see a reason to kill things just because they have the ability to hurt me. I guess if I seen a lot of them then I might change my mind!!

We had a horse powered hay baler that we fed the hay into the box by hand rather that with ram. I feed a rattler into the baler. We found it when the bale came out of baler. From that time on we used a short hand pitchfork to feed the hay into baler.

Lol I can see why I have found a fair share of snakes in bales of hay. The greatest thing is when your unloading the wagon and send one up the elevator to the guys in the mow kinda wakes them up. We don’t see many rattlers in our area, but there’s enough to keep in mind if a bale lays on the field overnight you might wanna tip it towards you before you pick it up.

Step daughter has a big, yellow cat. The damn thing engages in annual spring hunts for copperheads and brings them home, like trophies. I made her a name tag. Rikki Tikki Tabby

The cat used to belong to the neighbor, but one of the copperheads came out from under the daughter's wooden steps up to the deck. She began to feed the cat and give it treats and lots of scratches. When the people moved they left the cat with her.

Around NY if you feed them even strays you own them. There’s people who go around catching them to spay and neuter and then put them back where they got them from. Most of the older barn cats have been eating by the coyotes!!

I’m one those fools who hunts poisonous snakes. I’ve stepped over them and didn’t know they were there. I’ve been bitten on the boot while quail hunting. All of this before I took up hunting them. I usually have a pair in a cage in the basement. Rattlesnake’s and Copperheads make great hat bands, rattlesnakes make belts. Although where I leave now there is only rattlesnakes. Also they are Damn good eating (rattlesnake).

Maybe they taste different where you live (who knows where that is? you need to tell us by adding your location to your profile) but the ones here where I live don't taste a bit like chicken, more like what cat urine smells like. No way that's good eats to me.
