I don’t bother them and so far they have done the same for me. I try not to kill them even when we’re baling hay we try to avoid each other. I just don’t see a reason to kill things just because they have the ability to hurt me. I guess if I seen a lot of them then I might change my mind!!
They have a purpose and I am quite satisfied to leave them alone as long as they are out of my space i.e. My yard porch house etc. My understanding is that if they find a place even close to human habitation they do not have tendency to leave but take up residence. Not at my place! Any place else unless I am threatened and cannot give them a wide berth I have an agreement with them. They leave me alone, I leave them alone. Not so with scorpions, yellow jackets, black widows or centipedes. They die!!!

I've had two dogs get bit by rattlesnakes in the last few years; so if it invades my property they get Remington Disease.
That would be lead poisoning? 😉👍

They're pretty snakes for sure, beautiful in fact. But if they are in my yard by my chair, they gonna be PRETTY dead.

I agree. Several years ago my wife ran a day care here at our house. One day the kids were helping her put mulch around the trees. One of the young boys about 9 years old was loading the wheelbarrow with a pitchfork, when my wife heard a scream and he came running around the house. It just so happened that I had just got home from work and had just stepped out of my truck. Myrna and I both asked him what he was yelling about and he said “THERE’S A SNAKE IN THE MULCH PILE” !! So we headed around the house and couldn’t believe what we saw. There on top of the mulch was a 3’ long copperhead, dangling from one tine of the pitchfork. The boy told us he had just thrown the pitchfork down and run when he saw the snake.
It had stuck clear through the snake. We still laugh about it to this day, even tho the kid’s mom wasn’t amused by the story when she picked him up later.

I think if it were in my yard I would I would remove it rather than kill. Besides here they are an endangered species. Lotsa trouble if you kill it.

Gentlemen: Everyone had to decide for themselves. In my opinion, my space is anywhere, and anytime that I am occupying that space. When I'm not there, they have the right of way. Rattlers, Copperheads, and Water Moccissans don't give any quarter, neither do I.

Amusing, about bailing hay. When I first started working at bailing hay in the early 1950's, the bailer wasn't a mobile, pick up on the move machine, but stationary. So a man on a buck rake with a team of horses would bring the hay to us at the bailer. We would have 3 or 4 guys, feeding hay into the machine, and two in back, one on either side to punch the wires and tie them to secure each bale.

Our sport, in this hot, dusty, and boring job was when the rake brought in a rattler, either dead, or wounded from the mower passing over them, you could tell by how the guy with the rake would handle his fork. He would carefully scoop up mr. rattler, feed him into the machine, and then all hands in front would be watching with anticipation as the snake would pass through the machine, and appear in the lap of one or other of the wire men. Usually if the snake was at the edge or on the outside and suddenly popped out, the guy in its proximity would yell, and fall backwards off his seat! Quite cruel, but still amusing for the rest of us. Just Sayin...RJS

Ok , lots of fishing here salt and fresh. Take your time have with it. Just left bass pro to get some hooks for trout . Lots of places to fish from shore and bridges too.after this virus clears I can tell you more places . I learned to fish this area by wadding the flats. Lived on base for 5 years so fished Eglin a lot of different ways. I’m very good at catching specks. HMU if you need any help.
