Do You really want to eat that fish

We have been crappie fishing Lake Worth and eating what we caught, but no more. The science on PFAS has been proven it to be much worse than we thought just two years ago. The firefighting foam at the air base presents a much bigger contamination problem than most other lakes. Do your research, some areas will be worse than others. Eat what you want, but I would urge caution when offering it to small kids and child-bearing age women. Just one opinion.

If you don't eat fish, you will get hit by a car. That's my theory

well that study would explain why there are no fishermen over the age of 50 they have all died out from the effect of eating the fish they caught....ok I know there are many on this site alone who are fishermen and claim to be in their 70's 80's and some even 90+ but can you believe them? after all they claim to be fishermen and fishermen are known to stretch the truth they must really be in their 30's and just look old because they have been eating fish

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I guess us old folks should have die twenty years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As a related aside...As in any clinical study, a 0% (PFAS) baseline needed to be established to compare to current. The only place they were able able to find 0% PFAS was in frozen blood samples from veterans of the Korean War. PFAS/PFOS and micro-plastics are real. To each, his own.

Exactly. Good Info. So in other words the guys in 60s-100s that ate fish frever may not have been exposed to chemicals until more recently. Many of the chemicals may only of been made in last 10-30 years. If not made maybe not used until more recently. Trying to educate the hard headed is impossible. Ability to detect many chemicals is newer technology as well. Many never wore a seatbelt but now they do because the car makes noise not because it's a good idea. Smoking tobacco never used to be dangerous but many that quit feel better and will probably live longer. Many can get sick from something that may never effect someone else but knowledge is a good thing.

Don't forget syphoning leaded gasoline and playing with mercury in our hands. We may be crazy but we aren't the ones going around killing other people.

The whole world has warnings we don't talk about Mercury DDT all that stuff that's been around a long time that are forever chemicals now adding pfos. It is everywhere it is in everything the warnings where I live say no more than four meals a month from the water I fish. Where I was fishing there are signs up due to very heavy levels don't eat fish and shower after contact with the water. I'm not going to eat from there any longer. No way to know how long the poison was in the water before they shut done fishing.

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, awareness of the presence of PFAS can be attributed to occupational studies in the 1970s that found detections of some PFAS in the blood of exposed workers, and further studies in the 1990s that reported detections in the blood of the general human population. They were actually invented in the '30s and proliferated in manufacturing during the '40s and '50s. Though Hawaii & CA have passed banning legislation (mostly in 'plastic' packaging products), compounds containing this fluorine-based molecule are still regularly produced in the US by numerous corporations. Tight lines all. Can't wait for the Lake Dixon LMB springtime.

River Runner,
This also is only one man's opinion.
Finally a fishing brethren who use the word "science" in a thread.
Thank you.
Austin? Not so surprising to this ignorant New York Stater and Californian. Go Austin! Boo Cowboys. After all my teams got bounced this weekend, so refreshing to watch the Sunday late game.

So what is in all the other food you eat? Where do you think those “forever” chemicals come from?

From what I can glean.
1. Micro-plastics in most ocean dwelling creatures. We eat them all the time.
2. Mercury certainly in ocean species; though we have fairly strict regulations here.
3. PFAS-family chemicals in most US fresh water species.
4. Growth hormones injected into our meat animals. This led to the downfall of Uncle Josh pork frogs, a personal favorite of mine over the years. The pigs got fat for sale before they developed the necessary lure skin thickness.
5. Re: "...where do they come from?" Arkema, Asahi, BASF (Ciba), Clariant, Daikin, DuPont (PFAS business now under the name Chemours), Dyneon/3M, and Solvay.
My 2-cents.

So many that have ended up with cancer including myself may of been partly from these chemicals. I just never get the attitude that no way I could of ever been affected by any of this because my grandpa and my daddy told me it isn't true. Meanwhile Grandpa and daddy are already dead from it but they told me it fake so it is has to be.

Airborne virus in fish? Fish swim in water. They don't breath air.
