Just the drag here too. I'm not coordinated enough to back reel. The few times I've tried, I've overdone it and line gets under the rotor and gets nicked. Then you have to cut off the damaged line, and before long you need to refill the reel.

I agree, looks like a good way to get great bird nest.

I use anti reverse about 1/2 the time. Depends on what I am fishing and where.

I use it as a last resort to protect the rod when I am overmatched. I adjust the drag and use the rod to tire the fish. If that is not enough, I resort to back-reeling when the line or the rod are at risk. It has helped on quite a few occasions.

I use the switch on older reels if trolling to let line out.

I always do. Mostly cuz I don’t operate it well with the anti reverse off. I get birds nests.

I still haven't figured how to get a bird nest on a spinner. On a bait caster, oh yeah, but a spinner all I ever get is an occasional wind knot. All a matter of definition???

The only time it’s really ever happened to me has been due to line twist from trolling.

Might I suggest a chain swivel between line and leader. It has taken a lot of four letter words out of my trolling. A chain works far better than a barrel and can be purchased as small or large as you need on the internet.

My fishing buddy forward and back reels constantly when drift fishing in the boat over uneven terrain. At the same time, he always locks the reel when stowed rigged in the rod holder. Penn is now selling a reel that stays in anti reverse with no switch. Even the best eventually go cheap to to make an extra dollar. No more Penn's for me.

Thanks for the tip bapabear. Since I don’t have a boat anymore I guess I won’t need one but I will keep that fact in mind just in case…….. Ya never know huh?

That I understand.. it's the same thing with wind knots.l You get little twist in the line, then it will throwa loop in the line.

That would be nice. No fishing clubs here and my buddy with a boat lives 300 miles away but twice a year he invites me to go to Lake Powell and I also have a standing invite to visit him at his home. As soon as gas goes down to where I can afford to make the trip I’m headed that way.
