Does anyone ever use the anti reverse on a spinning reel?? I never do just use my drag system.
I use mine almost all of the time.

I have always used it, unless I needed to let out a little line. If more needed then I open the bail. I do adjust the drag when needed. I have just started using "Bait Runners" and they are nice!
digger... Aren't those bait runners great ? I saw a guy using one about thirty years ago. ( a Shimano ) and thought, what a super idea. Even if your not fishing live bait, they can be quite useful. If you keep the secondary drag nice and firm, you can engage it during a fight, and it'll keep considerable pressure on the fish while you manipulate the primary drag. Then ya just click it back over to the main drag. Saved a couple of fish for me.Without baitrunner / feeder reels you can of course, keep your drag relatively loose, and palm your spool, but that takes your hand off of the retrieval handle. Not always what's desired in the middle of a fight. It takes a little practice that is easy to do with say, a bullhead or a bluegill, just to get the feel of it and develop the muscle memory so it's there when you need it. Lots of companies make em now, and I've used several and really enjoyed them . Great for live lining, too, and that's what I really started out using mine for after a fish yanked a nice rig of mine right overboard. aaarrrgggg !
None of this makes any sense, though, if you're fishing large, dense lily pads or Freds killer tree @ Mashapaug, then, for me, spinning gear is out, and its baitcasting with my thumb protector in place.
I wore out four of those Shimano bait runners surf fishing. Absolutely the best for a dead stick bait. Use a fish finder rig and they don't feel any drag bit they still wiggle the rod tip to say hello.
