Exactly. I moved here with the intention of doing what I have. Establish a decent life for family and enjoy the great outdoors

I moved to Utah from Southern Calfornia, assumed I'd do a lot of hunting and fishing, but spent a lot of time and effort to make a living. I really started fishing about 4 years ago. I've been here like 29 years. Luckily, my kids all love the outdoors.

I grew up in Ventura County Ca. It's just north of L.A. I live in Salt Lake City just a few miles south and east of downtown.

👍🏻.

My aunt had Aheadofhair Hair Salon in Simi Valley for 45 years. I grew up going to Malibu Pier to go charter fishing with uncle.

A good friend of mine currently worked at Restaurant there in Ventura and a 4wd shop. Maybe shop was Ruebans or Ventura 4x4

Wow, I was born in Ventura and lived there until I was ten. My dad got a job in Simi Valley and we moved there when I was in fifth grade. Lived there until my wife and kids moved here in 1992.

Cousins and Aunt lived on Morley or something like that. 1881 it was near Safeway. They moved over closer to Ronald Reagan Library. They have a pool and had a pool at the other house at 1881 Morley. My uncle took me fishing and I used to go do concrete work with him. I was oldest boy in the family’s. I was like his boy in the summer. My Cousins were both girls. I grew up in middle of nowhere in High desert so going to Simi was really fun as a kid.

When we moved to Simi Valley there were like three stop lights in the whole valley. There were more orange and walnut trees than people. My friends and I used to get dropped of by one of our moms in the draw just west of where the Reagan Library now sits. We would each have a pocketful of 22 shells and shoot there until we got picked back up. Besides the library, there are probably at least a hundred thousand people living within a 22 shot of there now.

It’s not what I remember either. So here is a good memory then too for you probably. Simi swap meet. It was fun back in the day. Sunglasses. The snack bars were open all that. We went for new stuff. I got a mongoose bicycle there when young. Those really were the good ol days. My uncle had a buddy that lived out of town past the swap meet and drive in. There was ponds there. We fished in little boat there.

Yeah that swap meet was amazing for new stuff and junk. That went on for many years. It was still going when we moved here.

I put out a text to the family the other night to see if any of them wanted to go ice fishing on Saturday. My son in law replied that my daughter would go. I asked why he wouldn’t go too, but he said he’d stay home with the kids so she could go. He’s been out with me before but my daughter hadn’t. She works every other Saturday and I guess we’ve always gone when she had to work. None of the boys could, or wanted to go. I asked the daughters in law that had been out with us before if they wanted to make it a Dad and the girls trip. One daughter in law said she’d go so it looked like it was the three of us. Friday night my one son that had said he couldn’t go said he might be coming. When I asked him about the plans that had him not able to go, he said his wife didn’t want him to be gone all day Saturday, but since she was going with me he thought he could come.
So the four of us headed out as early as I could get them to agree to go. We followed a storm to the lake. We weren’t ever in the storm, but the roads were a mess all the way there. The “parking lot” was covered with a bunch of fresh snow and we pretty much snagged the last spot to park.
Where we parked was up above the lake. There’s a pretty steep hill to come down that had at least a couple feet of snow we had to walk through. It was a bit of work getting down to the lake and the snow was over the tops of our boots, so that kind of sucked.
We set up the tent and settled in. My daughter in law caught two nice fish and I got one. My son and my daughter didn’t catch any, but we had a great time. We were pretty much at the same spot we went to right after Christmas, but there weren’t near as many fish yesterday. We pretty much caught all we saw on the fish finders.
I got a new six man tent getting ready to take a bunch of teenaged boys and some leaders out later this month. We tried it out yesterday. It was nice to have the extra room. As always, it was a great day for me to do the two things I love the most, spending time with family and fishing.
I put out a text to the family the other night to ... (show quote)

Nice Stuco, love ice fishing. We should have safe ice by midweek, very much looking forward to it. Nice shelter by the way.

Thank You for sharing. Brought back many memories of my younger years. We had a portable ice shack with skids and a gas stove inside . 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
