I put out a text to the family the other night to see if any of them wanted to go ice fishing on Saturday. My son in law replied that my daughter would go. I asked why he wouldn’t go too, but he said he’d stay home with the kids so she could go. He’s been out with me before but my daughter hadn’t. She works every other Saturday and I guess we’ve always gone when she had to work. None of the boys could, or wanted to go. I asked the daughters in law that had been out with us before if they wanted to make it a Dad and the girls trip. One daughter in law said she’d go so it looked like it was the three of us. Friday night my one son that had said he couldn’t go said he might be coming. When I asked him about the plans that had him not able to go, he said his wife didn’t want him to be gone all day Saturday, but since she was going with me he thought he could come.
So the four of us headed out as early as I could get them to agree to go. We followed a storm to the lake. We weren’t ever in the storm, but the roads were a mess all the way there. The “parking lot” was covered with a bunch of fresh snow and we pretty much snagged the last spot to park.
Where we parked was up above the lake. There’s a pretty steep hill to come down that had at least a couple feet of snow we had to walk through. It was a bit of work getting down to the lake and the snow was over the tops of our boots, so that kind of sucked.
We set up the tent and settled in. My daughter in law caught two nice fish and I got one. My son and my daughter didn’t catch any, but we had a great time. We were pretty much at the same spot we went to right after Christmas, but there weren’t near as many fish yesterday. We pretty much caught all we saw on the fish finders.
I got a new six man tent getting ready to take a bunch of teenaged boys and some leaders out later this month. We tried it out yesterday. It was nice to have the extra room. As always, it was a great day for me to do the two things I love the most, spending time with family and fishing.
Stuco it looks like you're pretty far from shore. Nice shelter nice fish. I'll stick with softer water brother 🤣🤣

Beautiful pictures Stuco, but that water is too hard for me. Looks like you had fun though, and your tent looks comfortable. Nice fish too. Good luck on your next trip, I'll be watching fishing on TV. LOL

Thanks Grizzly, ice fishing is way more fun than it ought to be. Once we actually got on the lake it was pretty easy walking. It was a bit tough getting all the gear back up the hill.

Thanks Fred. I've already been out on the ice as much this year as I was all last winter. I'm hoping to get out a bunch this year. I just need to remember to get my phone out of my pocket. Luckily, my kids take pictures and send them to me.

Yeah, there were a few snowmobiles out on the lake yesterday. The deep snow may have made it hard on a quad unless you had tracks like Egghead has.

It's a blast Jeremy. I would love to go up where the grumpy old men fished. It would be cool to be able to drive up to the fish house. I'm way too out of shape for all that hiking.
I see what you mean. I been in 3’ plus of snow with throttle wide open in 3 or so low and did great but decided to stop and it took an hour or two to get it rolling again. I’m not sure if he still has it. He rescued it from bottom and then wanted to sell it but not sure if he did. I just had new tires and 350cc 92 Yamaha bigbear high low. Did well in deep if throttle on. Don’t stop. Like boat in water or bike in sand

My family is from Minnesota. I just didn’t grow up there. Mom and Dad wanted to move West.

Going down the hill yesterday, you pretty much went through the crust on top every step. I'm not sure how a quad would've done in that. It would've done great out on the lake though. I've been at other lakes and saw guys on quads get stuck and have a time about like you did when you stopped.

Maybe you have cousins still living there you could go visit and have them take you out. My daughter in law that was with me yesterday grew up in Wisconsin. She showed me a picture of an ice fishing tournament there where they have thousands of holes drilled in lines. It's crazy. She said they played on the lakes there all year long, on the ice in the winter and in the water in the summer.
Actually I do. At two but not sure if either are into outdoors. Their dad was and not sure if they got hooked like I did.

Yeah, you never know, it would be a shame to live there and not be, but it happens.
