Not sure how accurate this is,
but I once heard/read that the
early Colt Model 1911 was so
loosely fitted/designed and
therefore so inaccurate that they
were better used as a club !
I learned from the people in the neighborhood where I was living through k-5th many things. The man across the street owned a hardware store. It was for a small boy, Hardware University. Another was a DP from Germany. He was a furniture and cabinet maker. He had exceptional patience with a 6 year old with a lot of questions. Another worked at a bakery, and always had time for a tour of it. In 7-12th grades, the country school area had farms to work on in the summer, boat builders to watch, lakes to fish in, woods to explore. Now everything for kids seems to have to be "ORGANIZED", what happened to being a kid? You never have friends like the ones in middle and high school.
Wow. Were you spieing on my childhood??πππ the only thing you left out was the full service gas station a punk kid could walk in pet the dog. Who blind by the way. And BS with the mechanic. Sad those days are long gone. Kids today will never know. Thanks for the memories Grumpus

Only piece I have left is a little
.25 cal. semi-auto 'pea-shooter',
but I hope to replace one or two of

With my eyesight now at 20/30 (both

Big A!!! Good morning! You MIGHT wanna consider the option of the .410 revolver... Can't remember who makes'em right now... A buddy of mine bought one, brand new, about 10 or 12 years ago. (His eyesight was beginning to "slip" a little, as well.) Got him a possum with it, first thing outta the gate. The same tool, also "runs" .41 cal. rounds, y so; a versatile piece of equipment to have onboard! (One's "on my "wish-list"; but, not my "shopping-list", as of YET.)
Another good "house gun" (IMO) is the 12GA. Just point and squeeze. Get ya a 5-shot semi-auto, as short as is legal and sleep better! (I've got a little Remington model 1100/ iron-sights, right now... My "bird gun" has "been in storage")
1941 so I was right in the middle and I remember all of them and more we didn't have electricity until I was 9 yrs old
Glad youβre still around. Always loved chatting with a history book that actually told the truth

Good suggestions, and I've seen several versions of that big revolver, but the two guns mentioned are my first interest, followed closely by a Remington Model 700 BDL in .30-06 cal. with a Bausch & Lomb 3x to 9x variable scope, and maybe an
O/U 12-ga. for trap and skeet ! Don't hunt anymore but I still like to shoot !
Incidentally, I still do fairly well on the range with the Ruger and the S&W, so not likely to miss with either one within 50 feet !
(Don't you just LOVE the smell of
cordite in the morning ?)
I just love to hear my fellow Americans still buying guns and enjoying are right to keep and bear arms. Every aspect of firearms. From competition shooting to hunting squirrel and moose. And letβs not forget protection from the predators of our world

Yeah, that Remington model 700 will sure 'nuff "reach out and touch someone"; you've SURE gotta be mindful of ΒΏWhat's downrange of what I'm about to shoot THROUGH? ... ΒΏYa know what I mean?... And yeah, the O/U would be a far cry better than a single shot, but β-out that Remington model 1100 one time. I've had this one for over a decade and have never once fired it, as of yet. (Been "stuck in the city") I have however "dry fired it" {VERY few times} and douched it proper; keep a light coat of light oil on it... Loaded and unloaded the rascal several times, until I figured that I could "getter done" in the dark... It's a nice size, for a house-gun, measuring just 22" from muzzle to breach.
You do need to get out and shoot somewhere tho. Practice practice practice. The only thing that makes us better. I remember in the service. We would compete against each other. Taking apart our M-16 and putting it back together blindfolded. This only can be accomplished by practice

Ol' Feller, as a Squid, you are expected to address Marines as 'Sir' or 'Mr. Jarhead'.
You are correct and yes sail with many of you squids over the years. ππππ
