Why; thank you, badbobby! As far as "putting yer eye out" with a BB gun goes; I myself DID come very close, to doing just THAT!
Dad had to pay the "power company" to install a "telephone pole" on our property, as we were just far enough away from the road, to need a pole, about 50 or so feet from the house.
One day, not long after gaining possession of a brand new Daisy BB rifle; I got the bright idea to "shoot the telephone pole"... I was maybe 12 or 15 feet away from it, so; it wasn't gonna get away from ME!
Well, that BB done bounced straight back and hit me RIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES!!! (It only left an "angry red mark", which faded away, in not too long a period of time.) ... Talk about "Lessons Learned"!!!

Had the same experience, Able..... right between the eyes....Mom was NOT happy when the circumstances were revealed ! Only it was a full of water Clorox bottle (wanted to see if it would puncture) 20'-30' away, and the shooter was the guy who now runs cattle on my pastures. nearly 60 years later.... obviously didn't ruin our friendship !

this to all of you who survived the 1920's -- 1980's
first you survived being born to mothers who may have smoked or even drank while they were pregnant
they took aspirin and ate blu cheese dressing, tuna from a can,and weren't tested for diabetes.
then after that trauma you were put to sleep on your tummies,in a crib colored with bright lead based paints
you had no lids on childproof medicine bottles, locks on doors .and cabinets.
when you rode your bikes, you wore baseball caps-not helmets on your head.
as infants you rode in cars with no car seats ,no booster seats,no seat belts,no air bags, sometimes bald or retreaded tiresand bad brakes
riding in the back of a pickup truck was a joyful outing for you.
you drank water fro, a garden hose.
you shared a soft drink with three friends from the same bottle, and no one got sick or died.
you ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.
you drank "kool aid"sweetened with white sugarand
you weren't overweight.
WHY???
because you always played long and hard outside.
that's why!!
you played all day.aslong as you were home before dark, noone cared. and we survived.
you spent hours building your go carts fron scrap lumber.
then ride them downhill, only to find you did not have brakes.and you survived
you did not have play station, nintendosor x boxes.
there were no video games,no 150 channel cable.
no movies on dvd,no surround sound or cds.
no cell phones,no personal computers,no imternet and no chat rooms
you had friends and you went outside and found them
you fell out of trees ,had broken bones and lost teeth.
there were no law suits from these accidents.
you got spanked by belts ,switches, paddles and bare hands, and no one called child services to report abuse.
you ate worms and nud pies, and the worms did not live in you

you had friends and you went outside and found them
you fell out of trees, got broken bones and teeth.
you were given bb guns about your tenth birthday,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls.
and though you were told it would happen,we didn't put out anyones eyes.
you rode your bikes for miles .went to your friends houses and knocked on their doors,or maybe just walked in
you entered little league tryouts, and not everyone nade the team
those who didn't make the team learned to live with the disappointment,or determined to get better and make the tean the next year
imagine that!!
you had to earn ,nothing was given.
if you broke the law ,the idea of parents bailing you out was un heard of.
parents actually sided with the law.

these generations have provided our nation with some of the best problem solvers and inventors ever.
the past 65 to 85 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
you as children had freedon ,failures successesand learned responsibility
and you survived
if you were born between 1925 and 1970
I COMMEND YOU
FOR YOU ARE SPECIAL
this to all of you who survived the 1920's -- 1980... (show quote)

Absolutely excellent!!!! How in the world did we survive without big brother watching over us???? Today’s kids are a bunch of pantywaist….. Lord help this nation if they don’t start to toughen up!!!!

Probably. This is our society it seems like. Whatch out for flying cardboard knives and forks. My big red F350 probably also is on the chopping block. Stupid rules because of a few stupid people. Make sure to vote everyone. Gotta keep the foolish at bay

That’s because we were made to take responsibility for our actions. Not whine that it’s unsafe because we were foolish kids. And we all were once in awhile

This thread is making me laugh to no end! In case the fact has passed you by just remember what generation created all these things so reviled in the posts. They were all the result of the generation bemoaning how sad it is that these exist!

At bay, my lilly-white butt ! They
need to be kept under our thumbs
and under some form of control -
we can't let them run amok and let
the loonies run the asylum !

Things are just getting crazier by
the day; if they get too crazy, too
soon, this old dog is just gonna curl
up in his bed and take a dirt nap !
Don't need the aggravation !

Unfortunately, all my good weapons have been sold off in times of duress, of which there were (too) many !

Only piece I have left is a little
.25 cal. semi-auto 'pea-shooter',
but I hope to replace one or two of
my former handguns in the near
future ! (Mark III Ruger .22 target model/S&W Model 586 -.357 mag.-
6"bbl. - Pachmayr grips) !

With my eyesight now at 20/30 (both
eyes), I may not be quite as good
as in my youth, but still better than most - mal-feasants beware !

That Ruger is a sweet little piece for sure. Taken a few rabbits with one. Remember they have laser sights now. Might be an option. Too bad life has its way of making us lose things. But those things can be replaced. Good luck and shoot straight brother

Haven't gotten glasses yet; just getting by with 'readers' - problem
is trying to focus on rear sight, front bead and target and keep all three sharp - it's usually two out of three !
Scopes are another matter - no
focus problems there !
