How about a sunroof that doubles as a solar panel?

You just may be on to something there OJ. Imagine charging the battery while you are driving or just sitting in the parking lot.

You watch, here we are talking about it and some yahoo will be on the news making millions with this thought.

And now I'm gonna have to go check the chicken house.....lots of old hens clucking, it seems.

Then I can get back to making harness and buggy whips and figuring out what to do with all these cases of blank cassette tapes.

Cosco has raspberries too.

I have friend that owns a hybrid. She says it’s worthless. Runs on the gas engine whenever she’s going up hill or leaving a stop light. She spends more in gas now than she did driving her, fully, gasoline powered Toyota Camry that got 30plus mpg. She said it will stay in electric mode if she’s REALLY careful not to push on the throttle very hard. Any load at all and it switches to the gas engine. It’s her last “electric assist” vehicle if she has any say in it. Plus she paid WAY more for it than her last, gasoline operated, car.

here is the deal OZ if an electric car is caught in a traffic jam the motor does not turn on and the battery stays charged unless you run the AC or heater then it will drain the battery. If a Gas car is caught in a traffic jam the engine still runs so you run out of gas unless you turn off the engine but then you can't use the AC or heater. So while there are many reasons I don't want to have to buy an electric car I don't think the difference if caught in a traffic jam in the snow will be much difference between the two how ever if the snow gets deep I would much rather have my big ol 4X4 than one of those small little electric that you can't even but a set of chains on

So depending on where you live 3 months out of the year an electric vehicle might be ok.

The rest of the year snow Ice heat and traffic they would be useless.

Just an opinion.

well not useless I think you could use the battery in the car as a back up power source to charge your cell phone if the power in your house goes out during a snow storm

I will say, one day early last summer, I had three encounters with Tesla’s. I was behind one getting on a freeway on-ramp and the driver “hit the gas” and was gone. Later I saw another one on the freeway with a similar result. I’ve never seen anything accelerate like that. Then a bit later I was on a city street in downtown Salt Lake City. There was a Tesla and a Ferrari racing between stop lights. That fancy race car looking thing looked like a four cylinder Ford Pinto racing a souped up mustang. It had no chance against that Tesla. I don’t know that it’s the end all be all having an electric car, but it sure looked like you could have fun when the batteries are charged.

Yeah but that Ferrari will go 300 miles on a fill up. The Tesla is good for about 50 before it needs a charge. Then it takes way longer to fully charge it than it takes to fill a gas tank. 300 miles in a Ferrari costs around 60 bucks. 300 miles in a Tesla costs three times that much and takes 5 times longer. And the Ferrari isn’t a whole lot more expensive than the Tesla as I understand. Most electric cars I’ve seen can’t get out of their own way. The one you saw must have been a special ordered kinda deal. My neighbor has a Tesla and it won’t climb the hill to his house. It sits at the bottom and he drives his ole reliable gas rig up and down the hill.

I’m not running out and buying an electric car and I’m pretty certain that since I prefer driving a pickup, that one isn’t in my future. I just said what I saw and it looked like it would be fun to drive something that quick. I got to all the stoplights before they took off again in my old F150.

I hear you Oz. In January I replaced my 2001 F150 with a 2017 Silverado. I h**ed going from no payment to having more payment than I want. I figure since I generally keep trucks till they have 300K or so miles, this will be the last truck I ever own.
