Hey Old Timer.
I recently watched an episode of Zona's Awesome Fishing Show about Bullard's Bar. He was receiving letters and photos from CA fisherman telling him about giant spotted bass in this reservoir. Zona and his buddy hit bad weather but still managed to catch some lunkers up to 10 lbs if memory serves. Apparently the bass are feeding on Kokanee salmon and growing to double digit proportions. You might give it a try with large crank baits and swim baits. Just sayin' as one of our regulars is fond of quoting.
probably why, if my memory serves me, are those 16" long trout bait lures that were made specifically to catch monster, whopper largemouth in a couple of california lakes. They would seek out the rainbows and browns, passing on large, tasty bluegills or perch.
Also...those lures were expensive as hell.

Yep. You're talkin' about Castaic (named after the lake the still holds the record largemouth) lures and those that followed. I always look for them on sale to save a few bucks.
