And while I'm at it, did you really think that you were going to be able to jump into a conversation about fishing for bass in California (the original question) with comments about us "having" California and how great Texas is, and not get a little flack back? Come on man.

I was born and raised in Texas. I love to hunt and fish there too. That bein said, doesn't change the fact that California has some GREAT fishin all over the state. I just don't particularly care for the way they run things out here.
Also was raised, " Don't dish it out if you can't take it." Just Sayin.

Yes, I can jump into the conversation because I fished in CA a lot. Now I wonder whose "testy". I was just saying I prefer to fish in Texas rather than CA. For your info, I was not born in either state.

Really??? If you were that smart of a thinker, you would have left that liberal state for Texas a long time ago.

Y'all can have California, I'll take Texas lakes, rivers, and ponds any day. Lots of ponds around here have 4-5 lb bass and occasionally larger.

Be a line watcher and you will be a fish catcher.

The 19 Out of the 25 largest bass ever caught has been in California. Largest was 22.01 out of Lake Castaic. What is the Texas state record, around 18? Granted Texas has a ton of lakes and ponds with really good bass fisheries, but they cant compare with California for size, try as they might!!!

Our reservoirs are deep and cool, therefore sustains a healthy trout population (are planted regularly) which the big mammas feed on an grow to the 20lb range and over!

Ya, you can get big bass when you feed them trout. I can go out right now and in an hour or so catch anywhere from 3 to 5 bass in the 2 to 4 lb range. And occasionally a 5 to 6 pounder. Some of those big bass you mention were caught by professionals like Bill Murphy. I don't have the time or patience to do what he does or the skills that pro's have. I like to fish for fun or for the table.

U make some good points RunandGun. Truth is both Texas and California have great bass fishing. Just a little different enviornments.

I lived on Clear Lake for almost 15 years, with my boat docked in my back yard. Hands down the best LM lake in the west, maybe in the whole country. You only have to go to a few BASS tournaments where your limit had to be over 50 lbs to be in the money. I didn't get any of those 10+ pounders, unfortunately, but they were common for the tournament guys. That lake also has crappie in the 2-3 lbs range.

He just keeps proving my point - can't tell em much. Fact is that California has better and more bass fishing than Texas. Your argument that California is a liberal state is almost (almost) humorous. Last I checked a large mouth bsss could not possibly care lsss who you voted for in the last election or which side of the fence you lean toward when you piss into a pasture. Sorry you don't care for our politics out here, there's plenty here and elsewhere that would agree with you, and that's fine. But just what in the hell does that have to do with fishing?

I think the Fish would probably prefer people who care for fish habitat. The fish would probably prefer people who consider the environment a gift and preserve it. So actually they probably would get all their fry and other fish cousins to vote out anyone who is against environmental protection. Read up on Texas Air Quality it is usually considered the worst in the Nation. Cancer, Heart Disease and other health problems are known to be caused by low quality air and water.

I see both side but I want cleaner air and water over not caring and taking the money and running.
