Hey Fred, going back to outboards, say I put a 6hp rude in tip top shape and stored it away for years where not so much as a bug could get to it, could it be gased up and cranked with a couple of pulls? Say when a grandson removed it from storage?

I always fog mine with Mystery oil at the end of the season. I did my Merc in 2001, and didn't use it for 9 years. I pulled the plugs sprayed a little WD40 in the cylinders, gave it a couple pulls to spread it around. Put the plugs back in,put some new gas in it,and it fired right up. All you have to worry about is (1)rings sticking WD will free them up.(2) bad gas in the carb (3)water pump impeller stuck or dried out. I always run some RV antifreeze thru mine when I winterize it,because it stays outside all winter. I think the polypropylene glycol lubes the impeller. It feels slippery to me. So I would at least pull the plug (s) and spray some oil in the cylinders and spin it around a couple times to work the rings free. I would test run it on a flusher or in a barrel,to make sure the water pump is working, before he uses it on the water. Good luck.

Thank you. Those are things I didn’t think of. Are you talking 2 stroke or 4 or does it matter? I have both.

My outboards are 2 strokes, but I did the same routine with the Inboard in my big boat. Here's the saddest day of the season -winterizing day

Hello again from lure central. This one appears to be a Sputterbug by Fred Arbogast. He mad two versions of this lure - a sputterbug (older) and a sputterbuzz (newer). The older version has a smaller propeller shaped blade on it and the newer sputterbuzz has a more triangular shaped blade that is used on buzz baits. Apparently the rubber skirt is standard on both models and is a trade mark of many Arbogast lures due to his experience with Hula girls in Hawaii as mentioned in a previous post. The newer version is still manufactured by Pradco lure company that bought out several old lure companies - Bomber, Creek Chub, Heddon, and Rebel for example.

Nice boat Fred. Looks like a deep boat to. Yeah, putting one away is hard but necessary.

I used it on Long Island Sound for the first 12 years I had it. I usually lay it up at the end of Thanksgiving weekend. Did the same when I had my Luhrs. I tend to get a little OCD about things, but that's why my junk lasts a long time. I'm a cheapskate at heart. I don't mind buying more stuff, but I don't like replacing things that go bad,if that makes any sense. Any way,I gotta hit the rack, getting up at 5:30 to go Smallmouth hunting. Talk to you tomorrow.
