No, just googled them because I asked the wife what ever happen to the one we had. I remember the book as well as for which one, no clue. But the reading like you say was so true.

Mine is gone too. I have often wondered if those ladies ever realized how much damage they did. The guilt complex followed me for a long long time. It was a different world and not all of it bad.

Just remember the old saying;
"You don't graduate from parochial school - you survive it !" The other thing about my school/parish was report cards ! Occasionally, the Monsignor would come by on report card day to hand them out; most of us guys dreaded it ! If he wasn't happy with your grades (we got grades for conduct), he would give you a flick of the finger behind the ear that would sting for hours !
I think we dreaded that more than getting 'clapped' on the knuckles !

Regarding the girls: although the nuns didn't hit them, they nagged them incessantly about the way they dressed ! Skirts were getting a little shorter in the late-60s, and patent-leather shoes were the
rage ! They were constantly admonishing them about wearing them 'too short' and that if they wore the patent-leather shoes, the high shine could let the boys 'look up their skirts' ! (That was a bold-faced lie ! WE LOOKED, but never saw anything worthwhile !) Also, any girls that even associated with boys in the schoolyard were labeled 'boy-crazy' and singled out for even more/worse criticism !

Big A you take me back 60+ years with the girl talk. Yea I admit we looked. You think that pencil just rolled off the desk accidently? Then from 6th to 8th grade there was always that one hot girl. They were hot before hot was being used. Like you say worse criticism ever but it seemed to fuel their fire. Often wonder where they ended up.

Unfortunately I went to an all boys high school after 9 years of grade school. Yep 9 years, just could not let go of that play outside factor until I went to summer school a few times. DING !!! better get studing.

Sixth grade, went to the Saturday matinee with Kathy White. One of the surfer movies I think. At the end of the movie She kissed me. It was wet and sloppy and I loved it. Somebody ratted on us. She was ostracized out of school. She was the lucky one. I had to stay and take it for months.

Yep ! There were a couple of 'hotties' getting up there in the 6th/7th/8th grades; don't know if that term 'boy-crazy' is accurate or not (as applied to them), but they sure drove us boys crazy ! Funny, but I do seem to remember an increase in 'pencil-dropping' in class around that age ! Also, that was about the time my conduct grades started slipping, probably due to the particular crowd I hung around with ! Up until the 5th grade, my conduct marks were always 100%; started sliding into the high 90s in 6th, mid-80s in 7th and down to 75% by middle of the 8th ! Needless to say, the folks were NOT thrilled ! Dad knew the cause, but didn't say too much, as he was friends with THEIR dads !
I think mom thought that her 'angel' was turning into Satan's
Spawn ! School grades weren't affected much, but conduct marks really went down the crapper ! Peer pressure, I'd guess !

Oh Karen Fisher where are you today? Broke my heart after I walked you home so many days. You showed up at the ball field with another. When that ball hit me on the noggin the lights went out and Karen no more.

Lucky you Gray, at least you got a wet one.

Regarding memory; it's a funny thing ! Long-term memory is deeply ingrained from life
experiences and the way they affected us; short-term memory, not so much ! Blame it on old age/ senility, whatever ! I still remember a stupid poem I learned in third grade, but would be lost/hard-pressed trying to remember what my dinner was just two days ago !
Comes with the territory, I guess !
