I fish from my boat in 25 to 30 feet in spring time so not sure where to cast from shore but a 4inch berkly smelt on a # 2 jig head works quite well if you're casting or jigging.
we had a good day of ice fish yesterday on the lake they call the dead sea, Harveys Lake in Barnet VT has been pretty slow fishing the last few years but we had a blue bird sky and 40 degree temps with absolutely no wind and came away at the end of the day with 2 nice rainbows and a 24 inch lake trout.
I fish champlain in open water for salmon and lakers with great success but I don't ice fish there cause I don't trust the ice and especially this year the way we have had the warm weather, i'm sure there are other anglers over that way can give you good information on ice conditions
cant beat those ugly sticks, I have 8 of them 6 trolling rod 7' to 9' matched up with okuma reals and 2 casting rods matched up with shimano reals, hope they never stop making them as I have had most of these ugly sticks for over 20 years.
welcome to the forum Jimmy, my ice fishing buddy is moving to Florid this year so always looking for someone to join me, i'm retired myself so I can pick my days to fish, I love to ice fish for lake trout and northern pike, so if you ever get up to vermont look me up i'm just 5 minutes off I 91 exit 17 and if you like pickerel I have a pond 2 miles up the road from my home that's full of pickerl , I have a recipe that is easy to prepare them where you don't have to worry about the bones
with deer season up on us I am going out one last time before winterizing my boat and parking it for the winter, going to try for some salmon, rainbow and lake trout, this is a hard lake to fish so any of the 3 species will be a bonus, hope everyone from the northeast has had a good open water fishing season and every one from the south keeps having great fishing.
One of my fishing buddies is moving to Florida so I invited him to go salmon fishing one last time over to lake champlain, we went up to st albans bay where I have had pretty good luck in the past, we didn't hook up with any salmon but my buddy caught this 8 lb walleye, we had 5 foot waves which made it hard to fish, my 16' triton will handle the rough water but trying to reel in a fish in those condition was a real challenge.
looks like some great eating and a lot of fun catching, thanks for the pics
Got back from a week of white perch fishing last week had a great time and caught some nice white perc and a few yellow perch
lake Morey in Fairlee vt has some big smallies and largemouth, I don't fish it on open water as I primarily target walleye, salmon and lakers but I do ice fish Morey on occasions and have landed some pretty nice bass, also if your looking for smaller ponds Tickelnaker in Ryegate or halls in Newbury have both small mouth and largemouth. good luck.
went to champlain the other day fishing was slow but we caught some nice lakers

Welcome to the Stage, Lee.
Thanks maybe before summer is over I'll have this fishing stage figured out
has anyone been on the lake for salmon since we got all this rain and if so how deep are they running? I plan on fishing this wednesday between juniper island and the New York side so just curios, thanks.
