I’m going to fish the deep corners of the river in 50 degree temperatures. I have plans to try live shiners, mid depth rattle trap.mid depth small brim looking lure, a bright colored jig with a hand cut pig skin trailer, and of course plastic worms deep and rigged like finess bait. Just had almost 3 inches of rain in a couple days and the water is murky and will have a slight chop.,supposed to be partly cloudy. I’m going to go with the flow of the river and not try to fight the current. Might try some docks. Any comments or you folks just read?

State Parks with Cabins, surely clean or I Agree with modern places. I like to rent at this point and I choose Mom and Pop places. Always check for bed bugs even at the Holiday Inn. I like truck tent camping most. Water proof and a good mattress.
Times have changed but we use to pull up to the shore with a poncho liner ,string and a good sleeping bag, fired wood and some ready to eat meals. Kids have never forgotten these outings. You can go a little more prepared but this style takes less room in your boat, canoe or kayak. Coose your locations carefully. This was 20 years ago. Those kids are doing the same with there kids today. I don’t suggest camp grounds unless it’s a state or federal park.
And your right, the outdoors, baring animals that eat people is still awesome.

I am experienced in Lake Fishing in Florida. I currently reside in South Central Alabama.
Im on Lake Gantt and believe it or not ,experienced local fishermen do catch decent size Bass here. I just haven’t learned the method yet.
The water levels fluctuate with the rainfall and the operation of the Dam. This time of year the level can change a foot overnight.
Habitats available are the old river bed ,with up to 25+ feet of water in some places in the lake itself, shoreline with or without grass next to deep drop offs or a constant 2-3 deep. Outside the River bed and shallows the lake averages8-10ft of depth. There is the Conecuh River which feeds the lake, which is a narrow tree lined winding swamp River with all the normal River environments.
At this time, shad on top of the water in the lake daily, lots of docks, deep and shallow.
Lots of weekend recreational boater in the warmer parts of the year. Several creeks and sloughs. Current in some locations during rain fall. The water will go from almost clear tanine stained brown to almost alabama clay orange though seldom is the orange.
Lots of small debris and food out of the narrow point of the river during heavy rains and Dam operation.
In my Florida Experience, when ever the water moves with flow the Bass are there. But if the water is not moving, during the fall, I’m lost,I know that Bait selection is the key. I need some guidance here please.

Anybody have helpful hints for the old Trooper?

I’m interested in different methods of cutting and shaping trailers from pigskin. I’m using skin from smoke hams. I found recomendstions for coloring them and making them plyable. There a some suggestions to use salt pork fatback. They may be available from manufacturers but I haven’t seen any in a while. I know that there are many plastic or rubber trailers out there. I would appreciate input on this subject. Thanks I advance.
